Qualifications

  • Good numerical and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Knowledge of health & safety practices.
  • Basic understanding of furniture repairs.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Full UK driving licence (held for at least 2 years).
  • Must be 25 or older to drive company vehicles.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Record, action, and close all Help Desk Calls (HDCs) promptly.
  • Conduct furniture audits and manage stock using the CAFM system.
  • Repair and replace furniture components as needed.
  • Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting furniture.
  • Maintain cleanliness of vehicles, warehouse, and equipment.
  • Operate a forklift and perform Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).

Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and customer-focused Maintenance Technician to join our Accommodation Services Unit (ASU) at Merville Barracks, Circular Road South, Colchester CO2 7UT. You will play a key role in ensuring service excellence is delivered across our operational areas by maintaining high standards, responding to requests promptly, and supporting the ASU Furniture Supervisor and team.

Your mission is simple: keep things running smoothly, ensure our service standards are met (and exceeded), and provide outstanding customer care. From furniture repairs to warehouse organisation, every day will bring a variety of tasks where your skills and initiative will shine.

What you’ll do:
  1. Record, action, and close all Help Desk Calls (HDCs) promptly.
  2. Prepare and maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly records.
  3. Conduct furniture audits and manage stock using the CAFM system.
  4. Repair and replace furniture components as needed.
  5. Assist with loading, unloading, and transporting furniture to and from sites.
  6. Maintain cleanliness and serviceability of vehicles, warehouse, and equipment.
  7. Operate a forklift (training provided) and perform Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
  8. Support monthly stock takes and audit processes.
  9. Liaise daily with unit representatives and colleagues to ensure smooth operations.
  10. Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by management.
What you bring:
  1. Good numerical and communication skills (written and verbal).
  2. Knowledge of health & safety practices.
  3. Basic understanding of furniture repairs (e.g., door/cupboard hinges).
  4. Basic IT skills.
  5. Excellent timekeeping and strong customer service focus.
  6. Full UK driving licence (held for at least 2 years).
  7. Must be 25 or older to drive company vehicles.
  8. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.
