Job summary

Baxi, Preston manufacturing site, is seeking a Maintenance Technician – Electrical Bias to join our fast-paced team. You will diagnose electrical faults, maintain automated production equipment, and drive plant reliability on double day shifts.

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering or equivalent is essential.
  • Completed recognised apprenticeship in Electrical or Multi‑Skilled Engineering is essential.
  • Proven experience within an industrial maintenance environment.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical Fault Finding: Diagnose and repair electrical faults across automated production equipment.
  • Control Systems: Work with control panels, motors, drives, sensors, and associated systems.
  • PLC Support: Support PLC fault finding (modification experience advantageous).
  • Preventative Maintenance: Carry out planned maintenance activities to schedule.
  • Mechanical Support: Assist with mechanical maintenance where required.
  • Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Continuous Improvement: Contribute to initiatives that reduce downtime and improve plant performance.
  • Health & Safety: Ensure all work is completed in line with safety standards and procedures.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate maintenance records and reports.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively within the maintenance team and alongside production colleagues.

Maintenance Technician – Electrical Bias - Preston

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician – Electrical Bias to join our manufacturing site in Preston. This is a key role within our Maintenance team, supporting the reliability and performance of our automated production plant.

The Person

We are looking for a technically strong, electrically biased Maintenance Technician who thrives in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment. You’ll be a hands‑on problem solver with strong fault‑finding capability and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance. You are safety-conscious, detail‑oriented, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a wider maintenance team. With a continuous improvement mindset, you take pride in reducing downtime and ensuring plant efficiency.

The Role

As a Maintenance Technician – Electrical Bias, based at our Preston manufacturing site, you will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. You will support both planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown activities across a wide range of automated industrial plant and process equipment. This role is offered on permanent double day shifts. You will take the lead on electrical fault diagnosis while working collaboratively with mechanical colleagues to ensure minimal downtime and safe, efficient plant operation.

Requirements
  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent Level 3 electrical qualification) – essential.
  • Completed recognised apprenticeship in Electrical or Multi‑Skilled Engineering (essential).
  • Proven experience within an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Strong electrical fault‑finding skills.
  • Experience working with automated machinery and production equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLC fault diagnosis (desirable).
  • Working knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics (advantageous).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • PC literate.
  • IPAF / FLT / basic welding experience (desirable but not essential).
