About the job

Full time, Permanent - Working hours: Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 4.30pm, Friday 8.30am – 4.00pm

Interview date - 9 May 2025

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to complete planned preventative maintenance and reactive tasks within the maintenance team.

The post holder will operate across all university sites and will act as first response to maintenance issues. No two days are the same, so you will need to be flexible in your approach to task and problem solving. Prioritising your day will be a pre-requisite alongside working with staff and various teams to resolve maintenance issues and affect repairs.

You will:

  • Provide support for all aspects of reactive and planned maintenance as required, ensuring delivery of a high standard and quality service to meet client expectations.
  • Carry out reactive works as per helpdesk requests to complete works in the time scales set out in our Service Level Agreement.
  • Report defects.
  • Complete high quality repairs.
  • Be responsible for your own and the teams Health and Safety on site.
  • Attend training.
  • Work to Standard Operating Procedures.

We are an accredited Living Wage Foundation Employer and currently pay the real living wage, which is currently £24,309 per annum. In recognition of this, the starting salary for this post has been increased to pay this higher amount which currently supersedes the actual Grade 4 salary before living wage.

About you

We are looking for a committed individual with knowledge of maintenance works in a fast-paced environment as you will work in our student halls of residence and our academic spaces.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have experience in the completion of work with a clear understanding of Health & Safety at work.
  • Have sound knowledge of products and materials, providing effective right first-time repairs.
  • Have smart phone/tablet and computer skills as the post requires use of these to receive works, complete jobs and communicate outcomes. Alongside this, you will undertake online training and keep up to date with Safe Operating Procedures.
  • Have good interpersonal skills, communication, and a commitment to high service delivery as student and staff experience are amongst our key objectives.
  • Be able to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills appropriate to the post.
  • Work accurately and safely.
  • Work well on your own and as part of a team in a physically demanding environment.
  • Be able to adapt and prioritise workload in a changing environment as no two days are the same.

Additionally, a full & current UK driving licence is essential for this post as some travel is required between our campus locations (all local to Northampton).

Qualifications

Desirable:

  • Qualification in maintenance work to NVQ level 2 (Equivalent) or relevant experience.
