Job summary

A leading industrial gas company in Manchester is seeking a Maintenance Technician to ensure reliability of production equipment through maintenance and project management. Responsibilities include performing preventative and reactive maintenance, managing safety compliance, and maintaining records. Ideal candidates have a background in Mechanical Engineering and experience in the industrial gas sector. A full clean driving license is preferred.

Overview

As a Maintenance Technician at Air Liquide, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of our production plant and equipment through hands-on reactive and planned preventative maintenance. A core part of your role will be to uphold safety and quality standards by collaborating with subcontractors and design authorities on maintenance work. You\'ll also need to keep accurate records of equipment calibration and certification. In addition, you will have the opportunity to manage small installation projects and may occasionally travel to other IPG locations to support other engineers.

Responsibilities
  • Perform on time maintenance via constructive planning with the production team and sub-contractor.
  • Undertake the maintenance work as per procedures and standards, along with engineering best practices. This would mainly include the repair and replacement of parts on cryogenic pumps and Industrial packaged gas filling systems.
  • Carrying out daily, weekly and monthly inspections and record using the dedicated computer maintenance management system. Communicate and report potential production and/or safety related problems that may affect people (employees and surrounding public), the business and the assets.
  • Provide a "Can do" service to the production department.
  • Local site spare parts management (efficient spare part stock level allowing good productivity and in line with budget expectations). Ensure all statutory inspections are logged.
  • Write reports on defects or recurring issues.
  • Provide accurate information to support the Capex process.
  • Ensure all quality and safety procedures are followed.
  • Work with the Engineering Team to define and formulate solutions for obsolescence and upgrades.
  • Assess every job individually. Observe the work area and report any unsafe conditions or behavior and report it to their line manager, propose corrective actions.
  • Participate in safety walk rounds and corrective measures.
  • Target the safety critical work. Work safely and methodically at all times.
  • Use and fully understand the PTW system where required.
  • Manage relevant contractors.
  • Use and fully understand the Management Of Change system where required.
Qualifications
  • The ideal person for this role will have a solid background in Mechanical Engineering and ideally have previous experience in the industrial gas, chemical, or oil sector.
  • Technical knowledge in plant/process instrumentation, controls, and electrical and safety systems.
  • Experience of processes on COMAH related sites.
  • Knowledge of Pressure Safety Systems Regulation and written schemes.
  • Experience with Permit to Work systems, RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements), and Management of Change procedures. An IOSH or NEBOSH qualification is a plus but not essential.
  • Knowledge of cryogenic processes, compressors, and cooling systems is desirable but not essential.
  • Disciplined, self-motivated, and flexible individuals, who can work on their own initiative to organise and prioritise work in a high-pressure environment.
  • A preferred qualification is an HNC/HND in an engineering subject or an engineering apprenticeship.
  • Full clean driving license.
