The vacancy

Are you experienced in property, electrical, engineering, or grounds maintenance? Do you have knowledge of or an interest in pool maintenance? If so, this could be the opportunity for you!

Here at Rainbows Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care and end-of-life support to over 750 Babies, Children, and Young People living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, as well as approximately 3,000 people, including families, siblings, and carers, across the East Midlands. Simply put, we’re here to brighten short lives and support families, wherever they are.

We are now looking for a Maintenance Technician to join our dedicated and skilled Estates & Facilities Team. This is a varied, hands-on role that is vital in ensuring our hospice and grounds are safe, welcoming, and maintained to the highest standard.

Location: Rainbows Hospice, Lark Rise, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE11 2HS

Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, with flexibility required on a rota basis to respond to emergencies.

About the role

Some of the key responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Carrying out routine and reactive maintenance and inspection tasks across the hospice site.
  • Providing a proactive and professional general maintenance service, including within buildings, the hospice grounds, and surrounding areas, using our maintenance system Fiix.
  • Working collaboratively with the team to identify and resolve any maintenance or facilities-related issues.
  • Providing an out-of-hours emergency response as part of a shared rota.
  • Supervising and supporting contractors, volunteers, and grounds maintenance staff when on site.
  • Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with health and safety regulations and Rainbows' standards.

  • Competency in general maintenance and repair, including property, plant, electrical, engineering, plumbing, or grounds maintenance.
  • A valid full driving licence.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices and relevant regulations.
  • A methodical and highly organised approach to workload and scheduling.
  • Experience of managing or working alongside contractors.
  • The ability to prioritise effectively and manage competing demands.
  • A Pool Plant Operative Qualification or experience in pool maintenance.
  • Experience of supervising staff or volunteers.
  • An interest in or willingness to complete a PAT testing qualification.
  • Basic painting and decorating skills.
