Job Description:

About the role

We have a new opportunity for a Maintenance Technical Planner in the North, based in Cramlington. In this role, you'll provide detailed technical support, insight, and control to the maintenance operational teams across various activities within the water and wastewater directorates.

You will plan, coordinate, and review the execution of high-complexity activities related to maintaining and repairing plant and machinery. You will lead teams comprising internal technicians and multiple contractors. The technical planner must deliver successful outcomes and ensure compliance with all internal and statutory safety control processes, including Construction Design Management (CDM) regulations, Permit to Work (PTW), Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Risk assessments, and NWG's electrical safety policies.

You will drive financial value by obtaining the best prices for parts and components across a £10 million spend, operating within procurement frameworks, and supporting the contract review process by providing insights into supplier performance and compliance, thereby driving efficiency against budgets.

You will ensure timely completion of statutory inspections related to EAWR, COSHH, DSEAR, PUWER, etc. You will review performance regularly, identify recurrent issues, and develop solutions, which may include adjustments to maintenance plans, minor modifications, or capital investments in collaboration with site operational teams.

About you

You should have extensive proven maintenance technical experience, including working in a multidisciplinary maintenance team. Experience managing minor projects and understanding, interpreting, evaluating, and managing project plans related to procedural, systems, and physical changes are essential.

You should have experience with financial, procurement, logistics, Capital, and CMMS business systems, and a good understanding of safety legislation such as PUWER, EAWR, PSSR, DSEAR, COSHH, and LOLER.

A thorough understanding of engineering principles in at least one discipline, along with knowledge of safety control processes (PTW, LOTO, CDM, Risk Assessment, Electrical Safety), is required. A BTEC ONC or HNC in electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation disciplines, along with leadership or management experience or qualifications in a business-related subject, is preferred.

You should be a strong team player, capable of engaging technicians to improve performance and reinforce safety culture. Developing effective communication channels with stakeholders to ensure excellent service delivery is also important.

We value diversity, inclusion, and equity and encourage all applicants to bring their authentic selves to work. Our network groups include LGBTQIA+ (Rainbow Support Network), Race, Ethnicity, and Cultural Heritage (REACH), Women in STEM (WiSTEM), and neurodiversity/disability (Thisability).
