Accountabilities

In this role, you will perform corrective and preventative maintenance, servicing, and repair of Hitachi rolling stock assets. This is a permanent position working on a rotating day and night shift schedule.

You will be responsible for:

  • Performing scheduled maintenance on rolling stock according to maintenance instructions.
  • Servicing and preparing rolling stock.
  • Driving within depot premises following operating procedures.
  • Participating in continuous improvement activities for maintenance processes.
  • Supporting the delivery and maintenance acceptance of new trains.
  • Completing exam tasks timely, undertaking fault rectification or repairs as needed.
  • Adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Attending testing locations, main line stations, and outstations for maintenance tasks.
  • Traveling and staying overnight when required.
  • Supporting team leaders and managers in achieving production plans.
  • Recording work activities and stock usage in the maintenance system.
  • Working shifts to meet service requirements.
  • Performing other relevant responsibilities as needed.

Required Skills/Knowledge

  • Experience working on a 24/7 shift roster in a modern maintenance depot.
  • Strong safety awareness in railway engineering environments.
  • Experience at stabling outstations or main line stations.
  • Proficiency with fault finding using laptops and remote diagnostics.
  • Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical schematics.
  • Experience with modern maintenance management systems and trend analysis.
  • Experience with modifications and campaigns on rolling stock.
  • Calm, diplomatic, and able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective at interfacing with personnel at all levels.
  • Loyal, committed, confident, and determined.

Desired Skills/Knowledge

  • Ability to investigate electrical and mechanical faults and write reports.
  • Intermediate IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with powered plant and tools such as bogie drops, cranes, and air systems.
  • Train driving assessment and license.
  • Knowledge of depot protection, working at heights, COSHH, manual handling, and depot isolation procedures.

Education/Qualifications

  • HNC in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, a served engineering apprenticeship, or equivalent railway experience.
