Job summary

Abernethy is seeking a Maintenance Team Member for Abernethy Barcaple, Castle Douglas. This role covers planned and unplanned maintenance, grounds care, and safe handling of tools. Live-in accommodation may be provided where required, with a flexible schedule including occasional evenings.

Start date is immediate. Full-time or part-time permanent contract options are available at this location in Dumfries and Galloway.

Qualifications

  • Some experience in grounds maintenance, plumbing, painting & decorating, or DIY.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Desirable: basic plumbing/painting concepts; vehicle maintenance knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in carrying out planned maintenance on buildings and essential services.
  • Assist with unplanned maintenance tasks, possibly outside normal hours.
  • Maintain grounds: boundaries, lawns, tidiness, and repairs.
  • Keep maintenance shed, vehicles and equipment clean and safely stored.
  • Ensure safe use of tools and equipment, including power tools.

Key Roles
  • To assist in carrying out planned maintenance tasks as is required on buildings and essential services. This may include painting and decorating, general repairs, development of the facilities, waste and pest control, cleaning vehicles and other jobs.
  • To assist with unplanned maintenance tasks as and when they arise. Occasionally this may be outside of “normal” working hours.
  • To assist in servicing the grounds of the estate as they require it, ensuring that boundaries are maintained, lawns are cut and all areas are kept tidy and in good repair.
  • To ensure that the Maintenance Shed, vehicles and buildings are kept tidy and that equipment is stored safely and correctly, responsibly caring for tools issued for personal or general use.
  • To ensure the safe, correct and appropriate use of tools and equipment, including power tools and vehicles.
Essential Requirements
  • Some experience in one or more of the following: grounds maintenance, plumbing, painting & decorating, DIY
  • Full UK driving licence
Desirable
  • An understanding of the basic principles of plumbing, painting & decorating
  • D1 qualification on Driving Licence
  • Experience of vehicle mechanics
  • Experience working in a trade
