A leading council seeks a Maintenance Support Technician to assist in various highway service projects. You will liaise with support engineers on winter service plans, data collection, and fleet management tasks, ensuring efficient delivery of operations while promoting continuous improvement.
The Highway Services team of the Highway Group is responsible for the inspection of the highway and works ordering of routine highway maintenance, small to medium construction projects, and winter maintenance across the county. They are the first response to requests for service and public liaison.
The role is to assist the Highways Services Support Engineers (HSSE) and Strategic Contracts Manager (SCM) in relation to identified projects and initiatives. You will review and monitor procedures and processes across the Highway Services team (HST) and the wider Highways section.
You will assist HSSE in producing the annual winter service plan, including assessing changes to the gritted network considering current route times, salt capacity, and new route times, making recommendations on whether changes can be accommodated.
You will support HSSE in the administration of winter service farmers, snow ploughs, and agreements, liaising with Norse Fleet to ensure they are fit for purpose and available. Additionally, you will support HSSE with new grit bin applications and administration.
You will be responsible for data collection from various sources, finance, and project support for HST. You will also support the Transport Manager and SCM regarding CES fleet management, including:
You will assist HSSE in providing management information and handling operational issues to ensure effective service delivery, along with reviewing electronic file management for HST. You will carry out project work and support the development of initiatives to aid the highways team.
There will be general invoicing work for SCM, including checking applications and arranging purchase orders. You will help develop, train, implement, and monitor best practices within the highways team, including project assistance related to learning and development.
The county is divided into four areas with teams based at area offices, each headed by an Area Manager. Continuous improvement is a key focus for the group's success.
