A leading facilities management company is seeking a Maintenance Plumber to support schools in Blackburn and Burnley. This full-time role involves conducting building maintenance, responding to breakdowns, and ensuring health and safety compliance. The ideal candidate will have plumbing certification, experience in a maintenance environment, and familiarity with both commercial and domestic systems. Qualifications

  • Experience in FM maintenance environment, ideally in education.
  • Knowledge of domestic and commercial water systems.
  • Undertaken L8 ACOP training with awareness of Legionella risks.

  • L8 ACOP training and Legionella awareness.
  • On‑call rota participation.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance essential.
  • Proven maintenance and fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of boilers and pressure systems.
  • Strong health and safety awareness.
  • Ability to follow site and company policies.
  • Flexible for out-of-hours overtime.
  • Experience in school/PFI environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Standby Operatives' on-call rota.
  • Be fully conversant and provide detailed knowledge of plant status, building conditions, and services availability.
  • Energy Management across the project.
  • Undertake CP/RP duties in specialist fields.
  • React to technical issues and support the team when required.
  • To maintain planned and reactive schedules.
  • View BMS PC information and adjust settings where necessary.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with existing customers/clients.
  • Provide out of hours cover in accordance with roster.
  • Responsible for ordering of specialist materials in line with company / office policy.
  • Any other duties reasonably requested by the management team.

Job description

EQUANS are looking for a Maintenance Plumber to work on our Lancashire and Blackburn Schools contract across Blackburn and Burnley. This role would be a permanent full-time role working 40 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.

General Overview
  • Carry out building maintenance as required
  • Provide technical solutions for PPM work and fault rectification
  • Undertake fault finding and diagnosis, problem solve and communicate technical knowledge to others
  • Be fully conversant and provide detailed knowledge of plant status, building conditions, and services availability
  • Energy Management across the project
  • Undertake CP/RP duties in specialist fields
  • React to technical issues and support the team when required
  • To maintain planned and reactive schedules

Impact

The role is part of a maintenance team delivering a service to 11 schools across Burnley and Blackburn. The position is central to the delivery of Technical FM services in line with the FM contract.

Complexity

Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on domestic and commercial water systems in accordance with the PPM programme. Respond in a timely manner to breakdown requests. Carry out installation work involved in minor upgrading and adaptation works. Safely operate all types of hand and power tools in accordance with health & safety and manufacturers' guidelines. Ensure the correct use of personal protective equipment and adherence to health & safety and infection control procedures. Maintain records as appropriate. Undertake a willingness to assist and work flexibly with other trades. Ensure that there is minimum disruption to the schools whilst carrying out work. Respond in a safe manner to the effects of bad weather, eg. snow clearing, gritting, flooding, high winds, etc. Undertake training where necessary to maintain and develop the requirements of the service. Collaborate and co‑operate with partners and colleagues to deliver a customer focussed service. Participate in Standby Operatives' on‑call rota. Liaise and undertake duties at other EQUANS projects as directed.

Qualifications or Required Experience
  • Plumbing recognised accreditation certification/Gas Safe Advantageous
  • Previously worked in an FM maintenance environment (ideally education environment)
  • Worked on both commercial and domestic water systems
  • Have a good understanding of rain water harvesting systems
  • Undertaken L8 ACOP training and knows the risks of Legionella in water systems
  • Participation in an on‑call rota
  • Enhanced DBS clearance essential
  • Have a proven track record of practical maintenance skills and fault finding
  • Have a good understanding of services within a building such as boilers / pressure systems
  • Have sound knowledge of health and safety and Zero Harm
  • Have the ability to follow site and company policies and procedures
  • Be flexible to out of hours overtime
  • Experience in working in a school/PFI environment
  • Full UK driving licence
