This position can be filled as a Maintenance Operator Helper I, II, III, or Operations Technician based on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.

This position will fill multiple vacancies.

Job Summary/Purpose:

Responsible for maintaining equipment on utility steam turbines and generators, including continuous monitoring and understanding of the equipment's normal operating parameters and limits. Utilize maintenance skills to perform repairs and overhauls of plant equipment. Troubleshoot faulty equipment, assist in job planning, and evaluate costs.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  1. Perform maintenance functions on equipment throughout the facility, including rotating equipment, manual and control valves, understanding power plant systems, starting and stopping equipment, isolating and restoring equipment following Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, and monitoring boiler water chemistry equipment.
  2. Use elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices used in generating plants.
  3. Troubleshoot, identify, and repair plant equipment, including performing preventative maintenance tasks.
  4. Apply knowledge of the principles of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators, and their controls, as well as auxiliary systems.
  5. Comply with all safety processes and practices, participate in safety meetings, and be open to participating on safety committees or awareness teams.
  6. During unit outages, manage contractors, oversee quality control, control costs, and manage schedules.
  7. Communicate with internal and external organizations and customers, including dispatchers, directors, and contractors.
Minimum Requirements:

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred: 2-year technical school degree emphasizing ICE Technician skills or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience:

  • MO Helper I - MO: 0–2 years of experience in operations or a similar field, entry-level background in process technology/instrumentation.
  • OT: 5+ years of experience as a MO or equivalent process operator.
  • Preferred: industrial experience, at least 5 years of ICE Technician experience, and hands-on experience in turbine generator overhaul, fan maintenance, valve repair, pump overhaul, machining, and other mechanical maintenance.

Additional experience levels for Maintenance Operators and Operations Technicians are specified, ranging from 0-7 years depending on the role.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of elementary principles of mechanical measuring devices, instruments, controls, and regulating devices in steam electric plants.
  • Knowledge of operation and function of steam boilers, turbo-generators, pumps, heaters, steam traps, piping systems, pressure and level regulators, and their controls.

Certificates, Licenses, etc.:

  • Successful completion of the EEI POSS/MASS test.
