Job description

The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance with all processes, procedures, and policies that meet organisational standards, including but not limited to our Health & Safety Policy, HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda), and SFG20. Undertake routine planned and reactive maintenance as instructed by the Team Leader, including minor works. Perform routine repairs or minor works such as joinery, painting, decoration, general building works, ground works, or plumbing. Maintain effective site log books at NHS premises, ensuring they are completed accurately and promptly.

Job responsibilities

We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Operative - Fabric based at Birmingham - Aston Pride Community Health Centre. The role offers a starting salary of £28,000 per annum (dependent on experience) plus on-call allowance. This mobile role covers Central Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, and Oldbury. It is a full-time, permanent position working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm.

Requirements include:

  • NVQ Level 2 in carpentry & joinery or equivalent through apprenticeship or craft training.
  • Driving licence is essential.
  • Comfortable using technological devices for logging jobs.
  • On-call availability.
  • Industry experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Additional requirements:

  • DBS and DVLA checks are mandatory.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with NHSPS Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policies, technical guidance, and statutory regulations.
  • Deliver scheduled, reactive, and remedial maintenance as directed, maintaining operational standards.
  • Support minor works activities and projects.
  • Undertake routine repairs including joinery, painting, general building, plumbing, and ground works.
  • Maintain accurate site logbooks.
  • Support minor capital works and complete risk assessments prior to works.
  • Perform basic fabric, electrical, and general operative tasks as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • NVQ Level 2 or higher BTEC/City & Guilds or equivalent.
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft training.
  • Full UK Driving Licence, IPAF/PASMA license, CSCS Health & Safety Card.
Experience
  • Experience in building maintenance, minor works, and repairs.
  • Experience working with method statements or permits to work.
  • Experience maintaining services to SFG20 standards.
