MCR Property Group in Southampton is seeking a General Maintenance Operative to help keep student accommodation safe, welcoming and well maintained. You will respond to maintenance issues, assist with room turnarounds and work closely with the Maintenance Manager to deliver a high-quality living environment.

The role is permanent and office-based, offering a salary of £28,000 to £32,000 per year plus benefits. A proactive, customer-focused approach and a valid UK driving licence are essential.

Qualifications

• Carry out general maintenance tasks including joinery, plastering, decorating, plumbing and basic electrical work.
• Maintain health and safety compliance and document safety-related activities.
• Deliver high-quality customer service to students and colleagues.
• Assist with room turnarounds and inspections ahead of term start.
• Log maintenance issues accurately and report to engineers.

Responsabilités

General Maintenance Operative

Location: Southampton (office based)

Contract: Permanent, full time

Salary: £28,000 to £32,000 per annum

Reporting to: Maintenance Manager

As General Maintenance Operative, you will play a key part in creating safe, welcoming and well maintained spaces that help our students feel at home and thrive. You will work closely with your Maintenance Manager, peers and residents, resolving maintenance issues, responding to health and safety needs and supporting a high quality living environment. Every day is different, whether you are fixing a door, responding to an urgent call or simply checking in with students, and your attention to detail and commitment to our values will help build a positive community where everyone belongs.

Requirements

Perform General Maintenance Tasks: Carry out basic joinery, plastering, decorating, plumbing, electrical repairs and reactive maintenance to ensure buildings are safe, secure and well maintained.

Ensure Health and Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe environment by completing monitoring, responding promptly to safety related calls and adhering to all relevant policies and procedures.

Deliver Excellent Customer Service: Connect with students and colleagues, respond to maintenance requests and student feedback, and provide support with a positive and approachable attitude.

Prepare Rooms: Support room turnaround and inspections, particularly ahead of the start of the academic year.

Use Tools and Procedures: Log maintenance issues accurately and complete planned inspections, reporting any remedial work to the appropriate engineer.

Responsibilities

• A valid UK driving licence, essential for travelling between sites.
• Basic technical maintenance skills, including joinery, plastering, decorating, basic domestic plumbing and straight swap electrical changes, with attention to safety and proper documentation.
• Knowledge of, and adherence to, health and safety legislation, ensuring a safe working environment and compliance with legal standards.
• Experience in general maintenance and customer facing roles, demonstrating the ability to work effectively while delivering top customer service.
• Strong problem solving and communication skills, capable of addressing maintenance issues efficiently and interacting professionally with stakeholders and colleagues.
• Experience within PBSA, student accommodation, property management or hospitality (desirable but not essential).
