Job summary

Active Care Group in Nottingham is seeking a Maintenance Officer to join our Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre in Hucknall. The role is full time, 37.5 hours per week, with 5 days across seven and on-call support for holidays and weekends. Salary is £26,260.52 FTE per annum (pro rata).

You will perform planned maintenance, safety checks, and environmental duties across estate areas, maintaining records and supporting contractors to ensure safe, compliant operations.

Come and join one of the UK's largest providers in complex care. We'd like you to join us as a Maintenance Officer at our Nottingham Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Neurological Care Centre, located in Hucknall on the outskirts of Nottingham. We specialise in the treatment, care and support of individuals with physical and cognitive impairments as a result of brain injury or other progressive neurological condition. Our Nottingham Centre is based in Hucknall, Nottingham. The service has 59 beds split across 3 individual floors that all care and support individuals with physical and cognitive impairments as a result of a brain injury or other progressive neurological condition. The centre has a Physiotherapy Gym, Therapy Kitchens, Activities Room, Sensory Room & Minibus for those all-important outings and appointments.

What you'll be working:

Full Time 37.5 hours per week Working 5 days out of 7, Monday to Friday, on call support for bank holidays and weekends. Shift patterns in line with service requirements Salary: £26,260.52 FTE Per Annum (Pro rata)

What you'll be doing:
  • Planned Preventative Maintenance & Compliance
    • Carry out allocated Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities accurately and within required timescales.
    • Undertake scheduled preventative maintenance of buildings, equipment, fixtures, fittings and building services within own competence.
    • Complete allocated routine technical, safety and compliance checks, including fire safety systems, emergency lighting, fire doors, fire exits, water systems, electrical equipment and other estate infrastructure where trained and authorised.
    • Support and, where appropriately trained, carry out routine fire alarm testing and other statutory or preventative checks.
    • Carry out regular inspections of buildings, plant and equipment, identifying defects or emerging maintenance requirements and taking appropriate action.
    • Maintain accurate PPM, inspection, maintenance and compliance records, including through designated digital systems where applicable.
    • Report incomplete, failed or overdue maintenance or compliance activities and elevate significant defects or risks promptly.
    • Support the Maintenance Manager / Maintenance Team in maintaining accurate and inspection ready maintenance and compliance records.
  • Health, Safety & Risk
    • Carry out all activities in accordance with Health & Safety legislation, organisational policies, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
    • Identify and report hazards, defects, compliance concerns and potential risks promptly.
    • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ensure tools, machinery and equipment are operated safely and correctly.
    • Follow COSHH requirements and ensure maintenance chemicals and hazardous materials are handled and stored appropriately.
    • Work within own level of training and competence and elevate specialist, regulated or higher-risk activities where required.
    • Support corrective actions arising from maintenance incidents, Health & Safety concerns, audits or compliance findings.
  • Estate Standards & Environment
    • Help maintain the condition, functionality and presentation of patient bedrooms, communal spaces, therapy and clinical environments, offices, staff areas and external grounds.
    • Proactively identify maintenance, presentation or environmental concerns and resolve or report them appropriately.
    • Maintain roads, pathways, gardens, lawns and external areas, including seasonal snow and ice clearance where required.
    • Ensure maintenance areas, workshops, stores and plant areas remain safe, clean, organised and secure.
    • Ensure every repair considers both functionality and presentation, supporting Active Neuro's standards for the patient environment.
  • Tools, Equipment & Resources
    • Maintain maintenance tools, equipment, machinery and PPE in safe and serviceable condition.
    • Support the Maintenance Manager / Maintenance Team in managing maintenance stock, materials and consumables.
    • Report damaged, defective or missing equipment promptly.
    • Maintain equipment, stock and inventory records where required.
    • Ensure resources are used efficiently and with minimum unnecessary wastage.
  • Contractors & Operational Support
    • Support the Maintenance Manager / Maintenance Team with contractors and specialist service providers attending the site.
    • Assist with contractor access and practical arrangements and report concerns regarding safety, quality or incomplete works.
    • Work collaboratively with Hotel Services, Nursing, Therapy and other departments to support safe and effective service delivery.
    • Provide practical and technical assistance with maintenance, estates, logistical and operational requirements where appropriate to the role.
    • Support deliveries, equipment movement, room preparation and other practical activities where required.
    • Respond flexibly to changing operational priorities and take ownership of allocated tasks through to completion.
  • Patient Environment & Professional Standards
    • Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, families, visitors and colleagues.
    • Consider patient privacy, dignity, comfort and rehabilitation requirements when carrying out maintenance activities.
    • Minimise noise and disruption, particularly within patient bedrooms, therapy spaces and communal areas.
    • Maintain confidentiality, discretion and appropriate professional boundaries.
    • Maintain all mandatory training and technical competencies required for the role.
    • Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, initiative, flexibility and excellent attention to detail.
    • Comply with all Active Care Group policies, Estates procedures and relevant legislation.
    • Undertake any other reasonable maintenance, estates or operational duties appropriate to the responsibilities and level of the role.

What we would like from you:

We're looking for someone practical, dependable and proactive. Someone who takes pride in doing things properly, pays attention to detail and is willing to support the Maintenance Team wherever their skills and experience can make a difference. You'll ideally have some previous experience within maintenance, facilities, estates, construction or another practical environment, although attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are just as important.

You’ll ideally have:

  • Previous experience within building maintenance, facilities, estates, construction or a similar practical role.
  • Experience carrying out general repairs, painting and decorating, basic carpentry, plumbing or other building maintenance activities.
  • Some understanding of Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
  • Good awareness of Health & Safety and the importance of working safely within a regulated environment.
  • Confidence using hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment appropriately.
  • Good practical problem-solving skills and the ability to recognise when specialist support is required.
  • Good organisation and attention to detail, with the ability to complete allocated tasks accurately and within required timescales.

A full UK driving licence would also be desirable.

Relevant maintenance, trade or technical qualifications would be advantageous, but are not essential.

  • Ability to undertake general maintenance tasks including painting and decorating, minor repairs, basic carpentry and plumbing.

  • Flexible, reliable and willing to support changing operational requirements.
  • Relevant maintenance, trade, facilities or Health & Safety qualifications are desirable.
