Maintenance Officer (Electrical)

Full Time, Permanent (37 hours per week)

Salary - Agenda for Change Band 6 - £41,608 - £50,702 DOE + On-Call allowance

Here at Serco, we are recruiting for a Maintenance Officer to join the Estates team at Forth Valley Royal Hospital (FVRH). FVRH has over 800+ inpatient beds based on site, and numerous areas, wards and departments requiring monitoring.

The Maintenance Officer will be responsible for controlling the work within the Estates department, assigning workload from the Concept CAFM system, ensuring all reactive and PPM planned work is undertaken and provide support to the front-line team ensuring compliance with the PMS.

Reporting into the Operations Manager. The Maintenance Officer will be responsible for the management and supervisor of a multi-skilled workforce carrying out reactive and planned maintenance, minor improvements, and capital work across the Hospital as direct by management, ensuring compliance with Serco safety standards and procedures.

The post holder will be required to provide the duty of On Call Manager within the on-call rota. They will also be required to provide the duties of Authorised Person once all relevant training has been completed and appointment is received from the Authorising Engineer.

Main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with SHTM's, ACOP's, and current electrical regulations (e.g. BS 7671 Wiring Regulations).
  • Manage the personnel within the department to ensure all electrical and mechanical assets are maintained to contract requirements and statutory standards.
  • Use the CAFM system to assign and track the status of all planned and reactive work, including electrical fault reporting and resolution.
  • Manage contractors who attend site to carry out electrical and mechanical service/repair works, ensuring compliance with safe working practices and isolation procedures.
  • Undertake Authorised Person duties after appointment, including for electrical systems where applicable.
  • Support and oversee electrical testing, inspection, and maintenance routines, ensuring full compliance with legislative and healthcare standards.
  • Contribute technical input on electrical systems during project planning, upgrades, and refurbishments.

What you'll need to do the role:

  • Completed City and Guilds / NVQ or equivalent in Engineering, Electrical apprenticeship.
  • BTEC / ONC in Engineering Services or 5 years equivalent experience as an Engineering Technician with strong exposure to electrical systems.
  • Recognised qualification in electrical installation and maintenance (e.g. City & Guilds 2365, 2391 or equivalent desirable).
  • Sound knowledge of SHTM's and approved codes of practice relevant to mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Understanding of complex healthcare systems, covering a broad range of electrical and mechanical infrastructure.
  • Competent Person in piped medical gas, boiler and pressure systems, and/or electrical systems (HV/LV).
  • PC literate with a strong understanding of CAFM systems and their application to electrical asset management.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a similar role within a large, complex service, including electrical systems responsibility.
  • Previous direct line management of staff, including those with electrical trade backgrounds.
  • People management skills such as recruitment, absence management, disciplinary procedures, etc.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when dealing with electrical safety, compliance, and risk.
