Responsibilities

Job description

Harbour Healthcare is recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant in Stockport. Your role will include ensuring all legal documents are completed, carrying out day-to-day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services, and grounds to ensure the Care Centre is maintained in a safe and efficient manner. You will also be on call for emergencies.

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • General maintenance knowledge/experience (e.g., electrical, plumbing, joinery)
  • Confident team player
  • Use of a car or similar vehicle
  • Willingness to receive training on Health & Safety / EHO issues
  • Satisfactory Police check and POVA List check (if applicable)
  • Understanding of heating systems, laundry equipment, and water systems
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations

Main Responsibilities

General Maintenance:

  • Complete all legal documentation promptly
  • Report defects and hazards to the Home Manager
  • Maintain external areas, including sheds, waste areas, snow clearance, and gardens
  • Perform decoration touch-ups as needed
  • Test fire alarm systems weekly and log results
  • Keep ventilation units and lights clean; replace defective bulbs
  • Test portable appliances and water temperatures as per procedures
  • Maintain a Maintenance Book for recording defects and repairs
  • Assist with deliveries and monitor goods

Communication:

  • Liaise with the Home Manager regarding maintenance work
  • Participate in staff and client meetings

Training & Development:

  • Attend mandatory training sessions
  • Maintain professional knowledge and skills

Health & Safety:

  • Use and store paints and varnishes safely
  • Ensure work areas are ventilated and safe
  • Report illnesses or accidents immediately
  • Implement and promote health and safety policies and procedures
