Job description

Harbour Healthcare is recruiting for a Maintenance Assistant at Bentley Manor Care Home, Sherbourne Road, Crewe, Cheshire, CW1 4LB. This is a Part Time position with flexible hours.

Your role will include ensuring all legal documents are completed, carrying out day-to-day maintenance on the fabric of the building, its services, and grounds to maintain a safe and functional environment. You will also be on call for emergencies.

Skills, Knowledge & Qualifications

Required:

  • General maintenance knowledge/experience (e.g., electrical, plumbing, joinery)
  • Confident team player
  • Use of a car or similar vehicle
  • Willingness to receive training on Health & Safety / EHO issues
  • Satisfactory police check and check against the POVA List (if applicable)
  • Understanding of heating systems, laundry equipment, and water systems
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
Main Responsibilities
General Maintenance
  • Complete all legal documentation on time
  • Report and address defects or hazards to the Home Manager
  • Maintain external areas, including sheds, waste storage, snow clearance, and gardens
  • Perform decoration touch-ups as needed
  • Test fire alarm systems weekly and log results
  • Keep ventilation units and lighting clean, replace faulty bulbs
  • Test portable appliances and water temperatures as per procedures
  • Maintain a Maintenance Book for recording and addressing defects
  • Assist with deliveries and monitor goods received
Communication
  • Liaise with the Home Manager regarding maintenance tasks
  • Participate in staff and client meetings as required
Training & Development
  • Attend mandatory training sessions
  • Maintain professional knowledge and skills
Health & Safety
  • Use and store paints and varnishes safely
  • Ensure work areas are ventilated and safe
  • Report illnesses or accidents immediately
  • Implement the Care Centre’s health and safety policies
  • Promote safe working practices
