Are you a dynamic leader with a passion for engineering and maintenance? We are seeking a Maintenance Manager to direct and manage our Maintenance Department, ensuring alignment with our Business and Strategic Commercial Plan.

You will establish maintenance objectives, budgets, and KPIs to drive plant and team performance, collaborating closely with wider group colleagues on maintenance related matters.

First Hydro Company is one of the UK’s most dynamic electric generators, responsible for the management and operation of the pumped storage plants at Dinorwig and Ffestiniog in the Snowdonia region of North Wales.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and manage plans for planned, preventative, and predictive maintenance, as well as breakdown maintenance.
  • Ensure compliance with business statutory objectives and company procedures.
  • Set and review goals for team management, staff appraisals, training, development, and recruitment.
  • Provide engineering and quality guidance for all maintenance activities.
  • Establish and monitor departmental KPIs to improve unit availability and maintenance performance.
  • Collaborate with Asset Management Heads and Shift Managers on short- and long-term strategies.
  • Assist in developing contingency and recovery strategies.
  • Prepare and review maintenance procedures, risk assessments, and processes.
  • Manage the departmental Quality Management System requirements.
  • Communicate key strategies and learning points to affiliated departments.
  • Implement new working practices as needed.
  • Strategically plan short- and long-term outages to minimize commercial impact.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience in power plant maintenance, engineering, and operations.
  • Ability to handle complex situations and prioritize under pressure.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Excellent planning, development, and execution abilities.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Proficiency in general IT skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault diagnosis capabilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Efficient resource management in line with team and business requirements.
  • Team player mentality.

Experience:

  • Significant O&M experience in a power station or similar engineering environment.
  • Proven track record in delivering short- and long-term projects across various disciplines.
  • Experience in analysing maintenance plan performance and unit downtime.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing O&M policies and practices.
  • Strong contract management and negotiation skills.
  • Experience in planning, developing, monitoring, and reporting O&M budgets and plans.
  • Ability to foster an open communication climate.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Engineering-related degree or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Membership of an engineering institution.
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification.

Desirable:

  • Formal qualification or recognition in management studies.
  • Chartered Engineer Status or working towards it.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
