Job summary

Mansell Recruitment Group is recruiting an experienced Maintenance & Services Manager for a busy manufacturing site in the UK. This hands-on role focuses on keeping plant machinery reliable, performing planned maintenance, fault finding, and continuous improvements across the site.

You will work closely with production and engineering teams, tackling planned and reactive maintenance, improving performance, and ensuring safety with Lockout/Tagout practices in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Significant hands-on maintenance engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial environments.
• Strong electrical and mechanical engineering skills.
• Experience with continuous-running production machinery and strict production schedules.
• Proven fault-finding capabilities on PLC systems and electrical networks.
• Qualification such as HNC/HND, City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
• Valid UK driving licence and IPAF desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify complex electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
• Fault find on PLC-controlled systems, motor control circuits, VSDs and three-phase systems.
• Maintain and repair mechanical systems including gearboxes, pumps and conveyors.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
• Identify opportunities for machinery improvements and maintain a safe work environment.

Job description

We are recruiting for an experienced Maintenance & Services Manager to join a busy manufacturing environment. This is a hands‑on role, responsible for maintaining the reliability, performance and efficiency of plant machinery and production equipment.

Working closely with production and engineering teams, you will take responsibility for planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs and continuous improvement across the site.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on production machinery and plant equipment.
• Diagnose and rectify complex electrical and mechanical faults to minimise downtime.
• Fault find on PLC-controlled systems, motor control circuits, variable speed drives, contactors, sensors and three‑phase electrical systems.
• Maintain and repair mechanical systems including gearboxes, chains, belts, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, conveyors and precision assemblies.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, technical manuals and engineering documentation.
• Identify opportunities for machinery improvements and modifications to enhance reliability, performance and production efficiency.
• Work safely in accordance with site procedures, including isolation, Lockout/Tagout and safe working practices.
• Liaise effectively with production teams, engineers and management regarding maintenance requirements and planned work.
• Work flexibly across different areas of a manufacturing facility, including environments that may involve working at height, confined spaces, dust or varying temperatures.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Significant hands‑on maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing, production or industrial environment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical engineering skills.
• Experience working with continuous‑running production machinery and working to demanding production schedules.
• Strong electrical fault‑finding capabilities, ideally including Siemens or Allen‑Bradley PLC systems.
• Experience with VSDs, motor control circuits, sensors, contactors and three‑phase electrical systems.
• Good mechanical maintenance experience covering power transmission, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps and conveyors.
• Proven experience delivering both planned preventative and reactive maintenance.
• Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical engineering drawings.
• Understanding of industrial safety procedures, including isolation and Lockout/Tagout.
• Recognised engineering qualification such as HNC/HND, City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 apprenticeship or equivalent in Electrical, Mechanical or Electro‑Mechanical Engineering.
• Valid UK driving licence desirable.
• IPAF licence desirable.

The Person

The successful candidate will be a practical, hands‑on engineer with strong electro‑mechanical skills and the ability to diagnose faults quickly and effectively. You will be comfortable working in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment, communicating with production and engineering teams and taking ownership of maintenance issues through to resolution.
