Role Overview
Our client is seeking a self-motivated and driven Maintenance Manager to lead and develop their engineering maintenance operations across multiple sites in Leeds. The successful candidate will hold a degree in a recognised engineering discipline or possess equivalent engineering qualifications with demonstrable experience operating at the required level. This role demands an individual with excellent leadership qualities and a proven track record in managing and motivating engineering teams. You will be responsible for both the strategic direction and hands-on delivery of the maintenance function, ensuring high standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
Key responsibilities include overseeing planned and reactive maintenance, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and delivering engineering projects on time and within budget. Exceptional planning and project management skills are essential. A background in the waste processing industry is desirable but not essential.
Above all, the right attitude, capability, and a proactive approach to leadership and problem-solving will be key to success in this role.
Purpose of the Role
To lead, manage, and develop maintenance operations across two busy sites, ensuring the effective delivery of planned and reactive maintenance. This role demands a self-motivating, strong, proactive leader with excellent project management skills, a high level of attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to foster a culture of safety, reliability, and continuous improvement within the maintenance and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, motivate, and develop on-site maintenance teams to achieve high performance and foster a positive, team-oriented environment.
- Promote cross-site collaboration to share best practices and ensure consistency in operations.
- Oversee planning and scheduling, training, performance management, and development of maintenance staff.
- Maintenance Operations
- Ensure timely and effective execution of preventative and reactive maintenance activities across both sites.
- Oversee the maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and site infrastructure.
- Implement and maintain robust asset management and CMMS systems.
- Collaborate to develop new and more effective ways of conducting maintenance across sites, including the rollout of new systems and procedures.
- Project Management
- Plan, manage, and deliver maintenance improvement projects on time and within budget.
- Coordinate with external contractors and suppliers to ensure work meets standards and regulations.
- Prepare and present project plans, reports, and updates to senior management.
- Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety legislation, internal policies, and industry standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections and risk assessments.
- Lead incident investigations and corrective actions.
- Maintain high standards of engineering hygiene and housekeeping.
- Budgeting & Cost Control
- Develop and manage maintenance budgets for both sites.
- Monitor expenditures, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure resource efficiency.
- Continuous Improvement & Innovation
- Drive initiatives to increase reliability, efficiency, and sustainability.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices to enhance performance and reduce downtime.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance leadership role, preferably across multi-site operations.
- Technically qualified in engineering or a related field (Degree, HND, HNC, or equivalent).
- Experience with CMMS systems and maintenance planning tools.
- Project management qualification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and compliance standards (NEBOSH/IOSH).
