Overview
Maintenance Manager (with Duty Manager responsibilities) responsible for activity equipment & maintenance compliance across forest park facilities & grounds, natural resource management, visitor safety & engagement, and health & safety compliance. Lead responsibility for inspection, servicing, and maintenance of all activity equipment, including ziplines, alpine coaster, ropes courses, climbing walls, and associated PPE.
Responsibilities

- Develop, implement, and manage a preventative maintenance schedule covering activity equipment, park facilities, and vehicles.
- Carry out and document daily, weekly, monthly, and post-incident inspections in line with manufacturer guidelines, statutory requirements, and internal procedures.
- Ensure annual servicing, certification, and recertification of critical equipment, maintaining accurate service and inspection logs. Respond promptly to reported faults, coordinating remedial work and removing equipment from service when necessary.
- Oversee the safe storage, servicing, and rotation of PPE and specialist equipment. Train and support staff in completing pre-use checks and reporting defects effectively.
- Oversee daily maintenance of Forest Park, ensuring trails, pathways, and public areas are safe, accessible, and well-presented. Manage seasonal works including tree clearance, storm damage repair, snow/ice removal, leaf blowing, and debris management.
- Inspect and maintain infrastructure such as roads, car parks, bridges, restrooms, benches, signage, and lighting. Ensure upkeep of maintenance equipment and vehicles, including safe storage and servicing.
- Oversee the maintenance and presentation of all buildings within the Forest Park, ensuring they are clean, functional, and safe for public use. Ensure the security and upkeep of gates, fences, and perimeter boundaries, including regular inspections.
- Support health and sustainability of park’s natural environment through vegetation control, habitat upkeep, invasive species management. Liaise with environmental specialists and contractors on conservation and sustainability initiatives.
- Maintain the car park area, ensuring surfaces are safe, markings are visible, access is unobstructed, and the area remains clean and litter-free.
- Ensure all buildings, gates, and fences remain secure outside of operating hours, including locking procedures and alarm systems where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and contribute to long-term forest management planning.
- Engage and collaborate with external stakeholders such as the Belfast Hills Partnership to facilitate environmental programs, conservation efforts, and community-based sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure all public areas, facilities, and activity zones are inspected daily for hazards, maintained to the highest safety standards. Maintain clear accurate safety signage throughout park.
- Support instructors and frontline staff in promoting safe visitor behaviour.
- Ensure all maintenance and inspection activities comply with health and safety legislation, industry standards, and organizational policies. Lead on risk assessments for maintenance and activity equipment tasks.
Skills and Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Health & Safety IOSHH or NEBOSH.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a supervisory or managerial role within a complex operation.
- Forestry experience.
