Job summary

Travail Employment Group is seeking a Maintenance & Joinery Technician for our client in Harrogate. The role involves hands-on joinery alongside general building maintenance in an educational environment.

You will open and secure buildings, perform PPM, security checks, and routine maintenance while carrying out repairs and decorating. A full UK driving licence and Enhanced DBS check are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in joinery, building maintenance or caretaking.
  • Ability to perform plumbing, decorating and basic repairs.
  • Familiarity with planned preventive maintenance (PPM).
  • Organised with ability to manage a varied workload.

Responsibilities

  • Open and secure buildings daily.
  • Carry out PPM and general upkeep.
  • Perform routine security checks, fire alarm testing, emergency lighting inspections.
  • Undertake minor repairs, decorating and maintenance work.
  • Carry out joinery tasks: doors, frames, fittings, fixtures.
  • Assist with plumbing, basic electrical and handyman tasks.
  • Set up rooms and equipment for events.
  • Maintain maintenance records and safety procedures.

Maintenance & Joinery Technician

£30,800 (including on‑call allowance) | Harrogate

A superb opportunity to join a friendly, supportive maintenance team within a well‑established educational environment. This hands‑on role is ideal for someone with joinery experience alongside general building maintenance skills, who enjoys varied practical work and takes pride in maintaining safe, secure and well‑presented premises.

The Role
  • Opening and securing buildings each day
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and general building upkeep
  • Performing routine security checks, fire alarm testing and emergency lighting inspections
  • Undertaking minor repairs, decorating and general maintenance works
  • Joinery tasks, including repairing doors, frames, fittings and fixtures
  • Assisting with plumbing, basic electrical and general handyman tasks
  • Installing and maintaining fixtures, fittings and classroom equipment
  • Clearing drains, gullies and guttering
  • Setting up rooms, furniture and equipment for meetings and events
  • Liaising with contractors and ensuring work is completed safely and to a high standard
  • Receiving, distributing and storing deliveries and stock
  • Carrying out basic vehicle inspections (oil, tyres, lights)
  • Completing maintenance records and routine inspections
  • Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health and safety procedures
Hours of Work

35 hours per week

Rotating shift pattern:

  • 6:00am to 1:30pm
  • 12:00pm to 7:30pm

On‑call rota: 1 week in 6

On‑call allowance and overtime paid

About You
  • Have previous experience in joinery, building maintenance, facilities or caretaking
  • Be capable of carrying out basic plumbing, joinery, decorating and repair work
  • Have experience working to planned preventative maintenance schedules
  • Be organised and able to manage a varied workload
  • Have a professional and personable approach
  • Possess basic IT skills and be confident completing maintenance reports
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Be willing to undertake an Enhanced DBS check
