Job description
Maintenance Fitter (Nights) - £37,500 + Overtime

We're recruiting a Maintenance Fitter to join the night shift at a busy waste management facility in Leeds. This is a permanent role, offering £18 per hour (£37,500 annually) with opportunities for overtime. Working hours are 18:00-06:00, across scheduled shifts (not continuous 12-hour patterns).

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on maintenance experience who takes pride in keeping essential machinery running safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on plant equipment including conveyors, shredders, and excavators

*

Diagnose faults quickly and carry out effective repairs or part replacements

*

Implement preventative maintenance routines to minimise downtime and extend equipment life

*

Work to strict health & safety standards, ensuring compliance with site procedures and environmental requirements

*

Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and spare parts usage

*

Support colleagues across the engineering and operations teams to resolve breakdowns and improve overall site performance

*

Promote good housekeeping and a safe, tidy workshop environment

What We're Looking For

Background in mechanical or plant maintenance, ideally in waste management, recycling, or heavy industry

Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities

*

Understanding of heavy plant equipment and associated systems

*

A proactive, safety-conscious attitude and good communication skills

*

Relevant mechanical/engineering qualifications are preferred but not essential if you bring the right experience
