Job description

As Mechanical Engineering Technician at Sodexo, you will be the go-to person, the one with the answers to everyone's questions, and the one who knows how to keep the facilities operating smoothly. You will be the specialist who will provide technical advice and support for the maintenance of equipment, building fabric, and utility services across the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, Hospital estate. What you'll do:
  • Set out, fabricate, install, and commission steel and copper pipework for infrastructure.
  • Have a strong understanding of pumps, pressure sets, pressure vessels, and plate heat exchangers.
  • Investigate and address underlying causes of breakdowns or failures, implementing necessary remedial actions.
  • Comply with legislation, codes of practice, and Health & Safety regulations for engineering works.
  • Conduct risk assessments for maintenance and repair tasks to ensure safe work practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date plant history records.
  • Continuously learn new techniques and procedures, obtaining relevant certifications.
  • Manage the supply of spare parts and materials for emergency repairs.
  • Liaise with managers, staff, and administrators while observing departmental procedures.
  • Identify and request materials for repairs/modifications, providing detailed technical information to the Mechanical PTB/Manager.
  • Perform statutory maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, and testing of systems and equipment.
  • Provide versatile, multi-skilled support for preventive, reactive, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Service, test, verify, diagnose, repair, and calibrate mechanical, electrical, and electronic installations and plant.
  • Offer management and technical advice to staff and contractors, ensuring compliance with safety standards.
  • Assist in emergency corrective actions to meet Trust/client needs and prevent risks to people, property, and services.
  • Generate reports, calculations, and recommendations on plant and equipment performance using BMS and CAFM systems.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Proven experience within a similar role.
  • Experience of Mechanical Systems.
  • Experience of Calorifiers.
  • Experience of Plate Heat Exchangers.
  • Experience of Pressure Systems - Steam.
  • Experience of Pumps, Motors & Bearings.
  • Self-motivated and able to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for problem solving using a logical approach.

Package Description:
  • 37.5 hours per week.
  • Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 3:00pm or 8:00am - 4:00pm.
  • £18.66 per hour.
  • 27 Days annual leave + bank holidays.
  • Recruitment retention payment additional £3,500 per annum.
  • This position requires a NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, you must provide this prior to being progressed to interview stage.
