Qualifications

  • Strong experience as a mechanical engineer in manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of fast-moving machinery, pumps, and valves.
  • Time served as mechanical engineer or fitter.

Responsibilities

  • Provide breakdown support and participate in planned preventative maintenance.
  • Maintain equipment including pasteurisation and bottling machines.
  • Involved in CI and project work.

Shift pattern: (Earlies, Days & Nights / 7:00am-4:30pm 5 day Block / rotating 6-6 12 hour shifts)

  • Please note that due to the site closure which we estimate to be in the second half of 2027, we are offering an enhanced reward and support package to support our colleagues. This includes a pro rata retention payment (25% of average annual salary) as well as a redundancy payment based on length of service (no 2-year minimum service needed). We are also offering relocation support for colleagues staying with Arla following site closure as well as out service support for those colleagues who choose not to stay.

  • The Arla Foods Settle Creamery opened in 1963 and over the years has produced milk, butter and at one point mozzarella cheese
  • In 2021, Lactofree production commenced at its Settle plant in Yorkshire following £25m investment
  • The move from its Scandinavian sites was in reduction to the soaring popularity of the Lactofree brand across Europe.
  • Total European value sales from Lactofree rose by 4.7% in 2018, according to statistics. Lactofree milk in particular also continues to perform well, making it one of the UK’s bestselling milk brands#
  • The investment at Arla’s Settle factory has allowed processing capacity to grow by an extra 120 million litres of milk a year to a total of 305 million litres

So what do our engineers actually do?

This is an opportunity not to be missed. You’ll get the chance to work at one of Arla’s largest Dairies with state of the art equipment and solid career development . As a Maintenance Engineer, you will play an integral role on site in providing breakdown support as well as participating in planned preventative maintenance. Alongside your day to day, you’ll get involved in CI and project work.

This will be working on equipment including; Milk pasteurisation, homogenisers, separators process systems, filers, cartoners, bottle labellers, cappers, packers, blow moulding machines, weighers, flow wrappers, shrink wrappers, trolley packers. Palletisers, de-palletisers, conveyor lines (chain, spiral), robots (Kuka), vision systems, Spectrum TX rejection systems / OEMS such as Siemens, Krones, Tetra Pak, SPX flow, ISOMA,Hueft, Nepas, Alpla & Grunwald.

What you’ll need in order to be successful in the role

  • Ambition & drive
  • Strong experience as a Mechanical engineer (shift engineer/ maintenance engineer/ engineering technician and the likes)
  • Experience in mechanical and if possible basic electrical engineering within Manufacturing, Production and Process environments
  • HNC or apprentice trained or proven experience with fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Ideally you will have experience with fast- moving machinery, pumps, valves, Site Services (steam generation plant, chilled water systems, compressors, processes), CIP systems (chemical cleaning plant)
  • Computer literate – SAP, Microsoft Office, SCADA, Trend systems, HMI’S
  • Time served as Mechanical engineer / fitter within a manufacturing environment.
