Job summary

First Base Employment is looking for a Maintenance Engineer to support a busy manufacturing facility in Stroud. This hands-on mechanical role involves responding to breakdowns, performing planned maintenance, and ensuring plant and site safety and reliability.

You will deputise for the Site Services Manager and lead a small team, with 39 hours per week and a pay rate up to £19.25 per hour depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years' mechanical or facilities maintenance experience.
• Strong hands-on mechanical ability and fault-finding skills.
• Proactive problem-solving and identifying suitable solutions.
• Prioritise workloads and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication, with confidence communicating at all levels.
• Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Able to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider operational team.

Responsibilities

• Respond to unplanned plant, machinery and infrastructure breakdowns requiring repair or maintenance.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance across plant and equipment.
• Carry out and coordinate regular inspections of key plant and site assets, including lifting equipment and fire detection systems.
• Support machinery installations, plant improvements and infrastructure projects.
• Diagnose faults and implement effective mechanical solutions.
• Minimise production downtime by responding efficiently to maintenance requirements.
• Support continuous improvement projects across the facility.
• Ensure plant and machinery operate safely, efficiently and reliably.
• Coordinate external suppliers, subcontractors and regulatory contacts where required.
• Deputise for the Site Services Manager and provide first-line management support to the Site Services team.
