Job Description:

Maintenance Engineer - Electrical Bias

Location: Darlington, UK

Shifts:

Early: 6am - 2pm (Mon - Fri)

Late: 2pm - 10pm (Mon - Fri)

This is a hands-on Maintenance Engineer role with an electrical bias, supporting a large, clean manufacturing site made up of two buildings. You will be responsible for maintaining machinery, responding to breakdowns, and contributing to continuous improvement activities across a varied production environment.

The team operates on a rotating shift pattern, with a strong structure in place to ensure support and collaboration across all levels.

Key Responsibilities For The Maintenance Engineer

  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults including:
    • 3-phase systems
    • Motors
    • Sensors
    • Servo drives
    • Control panels
  • Support basic mechanical repairs (bearings, pneumatics, nuts, bolts).
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) using a CMMS (SHIRE).
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to breakdowns on early and late shifts.
  • Carry out project work, 5S, and continuous improvement activities on night shifts.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis and problem-solving efforts.
  • Communicate effectively with production staff and other engineers.
  • Ensure all machines and equipment meet operational and safety standards.

Ideal Maintenance Engineer

  • Electrically qualified (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Experience in a manufacturing or production environment
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, motors, sensors, and fault-finding
  • Some mechanical aptitude preferred
  • Familiar with CMMS systems and PPM routines
  • Team-oriented, proactive, and safety-conscious
  • Comfortable working across all shift patterns
