Job description


Depot Electrician / Maintenance Engineer
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Depot Electrician / Maintenance Engineer who will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical systems and equipment within the depot and associated facilities. This role plays a vital part in ensuring that all machinery and electrical components operate safely and efficiently, supporting the smooth running of daily operations. The position includes both proactive and reactive maintenance as well as general engineering support.


Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Maintenance and Repair:


  • Conduct routine maintenance checks on electrical systems, wiring, and machinery in line with internal standards and legal regulations.

  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and repair equipment promptly to reduce downtime.

  • Install, inspect, and test electrical systems in compliance with safety guidelines and industry standards.


General Maintenance and Engineering Support:


  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on non-electrical systems, including mechanical equipment, HVAC, and plumbing.

  • Assist with infrastructure maintenance such as lighting, power supplies, and general building upkeep.

  • Contribute to depot upgrades, installations, and other projects requiring electrical expertise.


Health & Safety Compliance:


  • Comply with all Health & Safety policies, ensuring that all electrical work adheres to current regulations (e.g. IET Wiring Regulations).

  • Perform electrical testing and issue certifications for installations and repairs when needed.

  • Follow safety procedures and risk assessments to ensure the safe operation of all systems.


Documentation and Reporting:


  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance tasks, including test results and repair activities.

  • Complete daily maintenance logs, service reports, and work orders.

  • Provide feedback and suggest improvements to systems and infrastructure where applicable.


Collaborative Work:


  • Work alongside fellow engineers, site personnel, and external contractors to ensure effective maintenance and timely repair works.

  • Support and mentor junior engineers or apprentices as required.


Key Requirements:
Qualifications:


  • Relevant Electrical Installation or equivalent qualification.

  • 17th or 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671).

  • PAT Testing certification (preferred but not essential).


Experience:


  • Demonstrable experience in electrical maintenance, fault finding, and installation, ideally within an industrial or depot setting.

  • Competence in preventative maintenance and repair techniques.

  • Additional experience in general facilities or mechanical maintenance is advantageous.


Skills:


  • In-depth knowledge of electrical systems and control circuits.

  • Proficient in interpreting technical drawings and schematics.

  • Strong problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to engineering tasks.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
