Job Title: Multi-Skilled Engineer (Electrically Biased)
Location: Fish Processing Site, Hull
Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off (Day/Night Rotating Shifts)
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer (electrically biased) to join our engineering team at our state-of-the-art fish processing facility in Hull. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of the plant machinery, electrical systems, and equipment in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The role will primarily involve electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, as well as mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on a wide range of equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Electrical Maintenance & Repairs:
- Carry out electrical installations, fault finding, and repairs on a range of industrial equipment.
- Maintain and repair electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, control panels, and motors.
- Conduct electrical testing and inspections to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
- Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical circuits, PLCs, and control systems.
- Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform mechanical maintenance, servicing, and repairs to conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, and other processing equipment.
- Undertake routine checks, lubrication, and component replacements to prevent equipment breakdowns.
- Preventative & Reactive Maintenance:
- Implement and follow a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule to minimize downtime and ensure operational efficiency.
- Respond quickly and efficiently to breakdowns and plant issues to minimize downtime and ensure production continuity.
- Health & Safety:
- Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental guidelines and ensure that the site operates in a safe manner at all times.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions as required.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety regulations and safe working practices.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Complete detailed maintenance logs, work orders, and reports in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records of electrical and mechanical work completed, parts used, and any recommendations for improvements or repairs.
- Communicate effectively with the engineering team and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
Key Skills & Experience- Essential:
- Proven experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer in an industrial environment, preferably within food manufacturing or processing.
- Strong electrical expertise with the ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical systems (e.g., power supplies, PLCs, control systems).
- Mechanical skills and experience with industrial machinery.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and compliance, particularly in food processing environments.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with other departments.
- A proactive approach to maintenance and problem-solving.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Installation, or Maintenance).
- Desirable:
- Experience working in a food production or fish processing facility.
- Experience with PLC programming and fault-finding.
- Experience with automated systems and robotics.
- A working knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards.
Working Hours- Shift Pattern: 4 on, 4 off (Day/Night Rotating Shifts)
- Days: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- The role will involve working on a rotating shift pattern with 4 days on followed by 4 days off.
