JOB DESCRIPTION – Maintenance Engineer

Reporting to: Engineering Manager

Department: Maintenance

StoneX has acquired a precious metals processing company in West Bromwich, specializing in the recovery and recycling of precious metals, including silver, gold, platinum, and palladium from various materials such as photographic, electronics, and industrial waste. The integration aims to enhance refining capabilities and expand product offerings across markets.

OVERVIEW

The role's purpose is to support the Engineering Manager and team with mechanical and electrical maintenance across the site, and assist with process improvement projects. Health, Safety & Environmental aspects are paramount, requiring regular collaboration with the SHE Team.

  • Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure plant efficiency and safety
  • Assist in implementing process improvement projects
  • Contribute ideas and strategies to support growth
  • Collaborate with production teams to resolve plant issues
  • Support the SHE Manager to ensure compliance of plant and equipment
Job Purpose and Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and develop the maintenance system
  • Respond to breakdowns and prevent recurrence
  • Liaise with office and site teams as needed
  • Conduct 'quick' risk assessments for non-routine tasks, reporting concerns
  • Troubleshoot and identify issues with key plant equipment
  • Assist with installation of new equipment
  • Perform quality checks to determine maintenance needs
  • Complete emergency maintenance when required
  • Lockout & safe isolation of plant
  • Troubleshoot, identify, repair, and maintain equipment such as:
  • 3-phase motors, inverters, contacts
  • Chains, bearings, gearboxes
  • Hydraulics and pneumatics
  • LEVs, pumps, compressors
  • Plumbing & pipefitting
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 17th or 18th edition electrical qualification (desirable)
  • Welding & fabricating experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • Mechanical experience in heavy industry/foundry environments
  • Knowledge of planned preventative and reactive maintenance
  • Ability to conduct quick risk assessments
  • Health, Safety, and Environmental awareness
  • Minimum 1 year experience in manufacturing/heavy plant environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication skills at all levels
  • Proactive attitude and problem-solving skills
  • Professional, approachable, flexible, reliable, and punctual
  • Attention to detail
  • FLT & MEWP licenses (desirable, training provided)
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights
  • Completed a recognized modern apprenticeship in engineering
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
