Maintenance Engineer (Electrical / Mechanical) – Leeds

£35,000 - £45,000 basic

We’re seeking a proactive and hands-on Maintenance Engineer (Electrical / Mechanical) to take ownership of plant reliability and equipment performance within a growing UK manufacturing business. You’ll be responsible for keeping a modern production facility running smoothly — balancing reactive repairs with the development of structured preventative maintenance routines. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who thrives on autonomy, problem-solving, and continuous improvement within a fast-paced, high-quality manufacturing environment.

Company Overview

Our client is a UK-based manufacturer of premium upholstered furniture and bedding products, operating from a modern, well-equipped site in the Leeds area. The company continues to grow through investment in automation, product innovation, and operational efficiency. As part of this expansion, they are establishing a dedicated maintenance function — offering the right engineer the chance to make a visible impact and shape how maintenance is delivered across the site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for all machinery and supporting equipment.
  • Respond efficiently to breakdowns, carrying out electrical and mechanical fault finding.
  • Support installation, relocation, and commissioning of new machinery and systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, service history, and asset performance.
  • Drive improvements in reliability, efficiency, and safety through engineering initiatives.
  • Manage stock of critical spare parts and liaise with suppliers to ensure timely availability.
  • Conduct equipment safety checks and ensure all work complies with health and safety standards.
  • Contribute to Lean and continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and increasing output.
Candidate Background
  • Recognised qualification in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent apprenticeship).
  • Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong diagnostic skills across electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Able to interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Good understanding of motors, drives, PLCs, sensors, pneumatics, and automation systems.
  • Self-motivated, organised, and confident working independently and collaboratively.
  • (Desirable) 18th Edition certification, experience with CMMS systems, or background in textile, upholstery, or packaging machinery.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary: £35,000-£45,000, depending on experience.
  • Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm with occasional out-of-hours work.
  • Overtime and call-out opportunities for additional earnings.
  • The chance to build and shape the maintenance function within a modern, expanding facility.
  • Supportive and forward-thinking company culture with long-term development opportunities.
  • Work in a clean, modern production environment with new equipment and genuine career progression potential.
