Job description

The role

Crown Paints invites you to become part of our Multi-skilled Maintenance Team, working under the guidance of the Engineering Maintenance Manager at our Polymer Plant in Darwen, Blackburn.

This is a two-shift role. The shift hours are:

  • Week 1: 6am to 2pm Monday-Friday
  • Week 2: 1.45pm to 10.15pm Monday-Thursday
Key tasks and responsibilities:
  • Maintain electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, heating, and ventilation systems, including working within confined spaces and at heights.
  • Identify, execute, and document necessary changes to the Polymer Plant's preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Participate in regular meetings with Polymer Shift Leaders and Engineering management to discuss maintenance requirements and priorities.
  • Plan and schedule maintenance work to improve production and asset utilization based on KPI data, RCM data, lean initiatives, and downtime meetings.
  • Coordinate with plant & equipment manufacturers to obtain technical information for servicing and repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor advancements in energy development for potential implementation at the Polymer Plant for cost savings.
  • Contribute to engineering and production projects and support Capital Expenditure requests.
  • Perform routine 6S procedures and audits as required.
  • Conduct inspections, installations, and maintenance in accordance with IEC 60079-17 standards.
Required qualifications, skills, and experience:
  • Time-served Mechanical/Electrical Maintenance Technician
  • NVQ Level 3 in an Engineering discipline
  • Practical knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, and electrical/electronic motion control systems
  • Understanding of PLC systems, including troubleshooting and error correction
  • Comprehensive understanding of raw material handling, production, filtering, and tanker operations
  • Experience in installing and commissioning projects
  • Counterbalance FLT license
  • SCADA proficiency
  • MEWP license
  • IOSH certification
  • CompEx Ex01-04 & Ex11 certification
