Job description

We are seeking to recruit a proven Maintenance Engineer (Shift Engineer) to join a busy, fast-paced manufacturing plant that supplies globally. You will be based on-site working a 3-shift system, with an induction phase of up to 2 months involving morning and afternoon rotations until familiar with the site. The goal is to shift from a reactive approach (fixing problems as they occur) to a proactive one (preventing problems before they happen), improving efficiency and helping achieve business targets.

You must be time served with a mechanical maintenance Apprenticeship (minimum NVQ level 3 or equivalent) and have practical experience in manufacturing/industrial environments. Duties may include:

  • Welding & fabrication – MIG, TIG, and arc welding; metal fabrication and repairs
  • Machine shop skills – lathe operation, milling, grinding, drilling, and general machining
  • Hydraulics – fault-finding, maintenance, and repair of hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, and actuators
  • Pneumatics – installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pneumatic circuits, compressors, and control valves
  • Mechanical fitting & assembly – bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, chains, and belts
  • Planned & reactive maintenance – routine servicing and emergency repairs to minimise downtime

The role is commutable from Derby, Nottingham, Mansfield, and Chesterfield.
