Job description

Maintenance Engineer (Fixed-Term Contract) - £52,500 including Shift Allowance
Location: Leicester - LE19
Contract Length: Fixed Term until December 31st, 2026

Package Includes: £44,501 base salary + £8,000 shift allowance, 6% pension contribution, 240 hours annual leave, consistent overtime availability, and access to structured on-site training.

Shift Pattern: Panama shift (2s & 3s), rotating days and nights - 6am-6pm / 6pm-6am, 42 hours per week

ATA Recruitment is working with a leading engineering solutions provider with multiple resident engineering teams across the UK. The site in Leicester supports a long-term partnership with a major national operation, and due to internal movement and contract extensions, the client is now seeking Maintenance Engineers on a fixed-term basis through to December 2026.

You'll join a well-established team focused on maintaining high levels of uptime and efficiency across site operations. A proven performer, the site has delivered industry-leading uptime and requires committed engineers to continue supporting its operational success.

What You'll Be Doing
As a Maintenance Engineer, your role will include a mix of planned maintenance and reactive repair work, supporting mechanical and electrical functions. You'll work with a wide range of site-based automation systems including cranes, conveyors, and shuttles.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Conducting PPM (Planned Preventative Maintenance) on mechanical and electrical systems.
  2. Responding to breakdowns, identifying faults, and replacing components like-for-like.
  3. Managing shift operations, leading by example, and ensuring maintenance logs are up to date.
  4. Handling mechanical components such as valves, pumps, bearings, belts, and hydraulics.
  5. Performing safe electrical work involving isolations, three-phase systems, contactors, and control panels.
  6. Using mobile systems to raise and close maintenance jobs, with support from on-site digital platforms.
  7. Driving continuous improvement projects and supporting operational efficiency.

What the Client is Looking For
To succeed as a Maintenance Engineer in this fast-paced site, you should have:
  1. A Level 3 qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical).
  2. Solid multi-skilled experience, ideally within automation, FMCG, ASRS, or related industries.
  3. Strong mechanical knowledge with confidence in electrical fault finding.
  4. Ability to work at height and maintain physical fitness for hands-on maintenance duties.
  5. A proactive, personable attitude, with the confidence to lead a shift and manage your own workload.
  6. Willingness to complete structured training, including a buddy system and safety training modules.
