Job summary

Black Country Housing Group is seeking a reliable Maintenance Assistant to support the upkeep of our care home and schemes across the Black Country. This permanent role requires practical, proactive individuals who take pride in safe, welcoming environments for residents, tenants, visitors and staff.

You will carry out repairs, health and safety checks, maintain records and work with external contractors. A full UK driving licence is essential, and the role includes 40 hours per week with DBS

Qualifications

  • Experience in a general maintenance role.
  • Knowledge of basic building repairs, domestic refurbishment, and home improvement.
  • A good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work with older people and vulnerable adults.
  • Good record-keeping and organisational skills.
  • A proactive approach and the ability to manage their workload effectively.
  • A full UK driving licence.
  • The ability to undertake physical tasks, including lifting, carrying, bending, and moving equipment.
  • A flexible and team-focused attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Carrying out general repairs, maintenance, decorating, and refurbishment tasks across our care home and supported living schemes.
  • Completing routine health and safety checks, including fire safety inspections.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance and compliance records.
  • Ensuring buildings, equipment, and outdoor areas are safe, clean, and well presented.
  • Supporting the upkeep of gardens and grounds.
  • Working with external contractors and ensuring work is completed safely and to required standards.
  • Responding to maintenance requests from managers and colleagues.
  • Helping to create a comfortable, friendly, and homely environment for residents and tenants.
  • Supporting compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, Safeguarding, CQC Fundamental Standards, and other relevant regulations

Contract: Permanent

Location: New Bradley Hall, Compton Drive, Kingswinford, DY6 9NS – 35 hours a week

Various other schemes around the Black Country – 5 hours a week

Hours: 40 hours per week

Salary: £13.68 per hour
