What does taking part in the Collins Aerospace Maintenance and Facilities Apprentice involve?

Aimed at highly motivated and ambitious individuals, eager to be a part of a world leader within the aerospace and defence industry. This scheme is geared towards supporting the career development of apprentices who wish to play an instrumental role in the manufacturing activities of the next generation of civil and military aircraft.

The role is based at our Collins Aerospace Composite Center of Excellence facility in Banbury, UK – formerly the Crompton Technology Group (CTG) – which designs, qualifies, and manufactures high-performance structural and non-structural aerospace composite products for military and commercial applications.

We are looking to recruit a high-caliber apprentice who can support our Maintenance and Facilities team to ensure that all employees and visitors have the best experience while at our state-of-the-art facility, whilst also installing and maintaining complex manufacturing equipment. You will be accountable for the service, repair, and maintenance of the site's building, infrastructure, and manufacturing equipment, ensuring that the needs of the business and our diverse customer base are met across key facets such as schedule, cost, quality, and scope.

Development and training to build your career

We recognize that your development is key to fulfilling your potential in the world of work. That’s why we’ve created a program that will support your learning to deliver real business value.

Your first year will be spent attending Engineering Trust in Bicester, where you will learn basic engineering skills in Maintenance Engineering. You will then come on-site to put your learning into practice, learning from our skilled engineers the basic principles and underpinning knowledge needed for your career.

The apprenticeship lasts for 4 years and is a partnership between Collins Aerospace and Engineering Trust. You will learn key engineering principles vital to your development, such as:

  • Understanding technical documentation
  • Carrying out system diagnosis
  • Performing repairs and modifications
  • Becoming capable of performing a multi-skilled role when required
  • Applying safe, efficient, and effective methods to keep machinery operational
  • Liaising with external service and parts providers
  • Assisting in Root Cause Analysis of Breakdowns and identifying improvement opportunities

By the end of the program, having completed your training and apprenticeship, you will be awarded Level 2 Foundation Competencies, Level 3, and the Apprenticeship qualification.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking individuals with the following attributes:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C/5 or above, including Mathematics and English
  • UK residency for at least 3 years
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A passion for hands-on engineering
  • Strong personal management and self-organization skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

The apprenticeship begins in September 2025. You must be eligible to work in the UK, and there may be security vetting required for military-related projects.
