Job Description

The Maintenance and Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all maintenance activities within the facility. This includes managing the maintenance team, ensuring the proper upkeep of equipment and facilities, scheduling repairs, and implementing preventive maintenance programs to ensure maximum operational efficiency and minimal downtime. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with hands-on technical expertise, as well as the ability to manage people and resources effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leadership & Supervision:
    • Lead, manage, and develop a team of maintenance technicians and staff.
    • Assign daily tasks and oversee the execution of maintenance activities.
    • Conduct performance evaluations and provide training to improve skills and safety awareness.
    • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the maintenance department.
  2. Maintenance Management:
    • Develop and implement a proactive preventive maintenance (PM) program to ensure the longevity and efficiency of all equipment and machinery.
    • Manage unplanned maintenance activities and prioritize critical repair tasks to minimize production downtime.
    • Coordinate with other departments (e.g., operations, production, engineering) to ensure timely and efficient maintenance support.
  3. Equipment & Facility Management:
    • Oversee the proper functioning of all mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
    • Ensure that all machinery and equipment is maintained to meet safety standards and regulatory compliance.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment logs, and inspections.
  4. Budget & Inventory Control:
    • Prepare and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring that maintenance costs stay within approved limits.
    • Manage parts and materials inventory, ensuring that spare parts are available and properly stored.
    • Work with vendors and suppliers to source high-quality parts at competitive prices.
  5. Safety & Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with regulations, including safety standards and environmental requirements.
    • Work with the H&S Manager to enforce safety procedures, ensuring all maintenance activities are conducted safely.
    • Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and employee safety training.
  6. Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving:
    • Provide expert troubleshooting and problem-solving for equipment malfunctions or failures.
    • Oversee repairs and ensure that corrective actions are taken quickly and effectively to minimize downtime.
  7. Continuous Improvement:
    • Analyse maintenance data and performance metrics to identify trends, areas for improvement, and cost-saving opportunities.
    • Implement improvements in maintenance processes, tools, and techniques to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
    • Encourage innovation and the use of new technologies in maintenance practices.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience (Required to perform the job)

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
    • Associate’s degree or vocational training in a relevant field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance) with equivalent experience may also be considered.
  • Experience:
    • Previous experience in maintenance management, including proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
    • Experience in food manufacturing or pharmaceutical industries.
    • Proven experience in managing maintenance operations for equipment, machinery, and facility infrastructure.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other facility systems.
    • Proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and other maintenance software tools.
    • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, manage, and develop a diverse team.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to interact effectively with employees at all levels and across departments.
    • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Knowledge of safety standards and environmental regulations.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call as needed.
