Job description

About The Job

Luton Governor Services are looking for individuals to become school governors. You would be part of a friendly and supportive team of governors who contribute greatly to the continued success of each school.

Governors are people like you – you do not need to be a parent, but you do need to be over 18 and have a passion for improving the standard of education for all pupils in Luton schools. Any additional skills you have from your work or family life are a bonus.

This is a voluntary role, and you will be fully trained and supported throughout. Meetings are generally held in the evenings and are a mixture of face-to-face and online.

Core Functions of School Governors
  1. Ensuring there is clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
  2. Holding executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, as well as staff performance management.
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and ensuring money is well spent.

Governors must also ensure that the governing body complies with all legal and statutory requirements.

Benefits of Becoming a Governor
  1. The opportunity to develop new skills and strengthen existing ones.
  2. An opportunity to enhance your CV for future work or voluntary roles.
  3. The chance to practice work talents and work with a diverse range of people from various social, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
  4. Gain an understanding of the decision-making process within school governing bodies and the education system as a whole.
  5. Make a real difference and contribute to the community, leading to personal satisfaction and achievement.
  6. Access training provided by the Local Authority on various aspects of the governor role.
