A leading global technology services provider is seeking a Mainframe Infrastructure Architect to join their dynamic team in the UK. This is a senior-level technical leadership role where innovation meets impact. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic bridge between internal delivery teams and enterprise clients, helping to shape, design, and deliver robust infrastructure solutions from concept through implementation.

Role Overview

As a Mainframe Infrastructure Architect, the individual will lead the technical design and delivery of complex infrastructure solutions, collaborating closely with stakeholders across the business—including clients, governance leaders, project executives, and third-party vendors. From initial consultation and discovery to final delivery, this role ensures that projects are technically sound, delivered on time, and within budget.

This is a hands-on role that requires a deep understanding of systems architecture, data centre infrastructure, and cloud interoperability. The architect will be responsible for shaping technical strategies, providing subject matter expertise, and guiding multidisciplinary teams through successful delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical lead across large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Engage early with clients to understand their challenges and requirements.
  • Design end-to-end mainframe and infrastructure solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Lead the implementation phase, ensuring adherence to architectural standards.
  • Collaborate with specialists across systems, storage, networking, security, and applications.
  • Leverage cloud platforms and hybrid environments to design scalable solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical contributors.
  • Identify opportunities to innovate and improve existing infrastructures.

Required Technical Skills & Experience

  • Strong knowledge of mainframe and data centre infrastructure.
  • Solid understanding of systems, storage, networking, and security frameworks.
  • Experience in solution architecture and technical design.
  • Familiarity with application and database integration within complex IT environments.
  • Exposure to cloud computing platforms and hybrid architectures.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with project management tools like MS Project.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all organisational levels.

The ideal candidate is customer-centric, growth-minded, and collaborative. They are eager to drive both business value and technical excellence. With a natural curiosity and an inclusive working style, they bring out the best in others while continually developing themselves.

This role offers a gateway to multiple career paths, from senior technical leadership to enterprise architecture or distinguished engineering roles. It also presents an excellent opportunity for experienced systems engineers, DBAs, or cloud specialists to step into a broader architectural position. Global travel and cross-functional engagements may also be available depending on the project.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to the company’s values. The organisation supports every individual to bring their authentic self to work and thrive. Employees benefit from world-class resources, learning and development programmes (including certifications from Microsoft, AWS, Google, and more), and access to a global community of experts and mentors.

Additional perks include:

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Competitive compensation and benefits
  • Access to volunteering and CSR initiatives
  • Career mobility across global teams and projects
