Job description

Maidenhead Rowing Club – Head Coach – Adult Rowing

Maidenhead Rowing Club is looking for an experienced and qualified rowing coach to head up a team of volunteer coaches, developing and implementing a coaching strategy for our competitive adult members.

About Us

Maidenhead Rowing Club is based on our own stretch of the river Thames, with a large clubhouse and enviable facilities. We have a top quality fleet of boats which are well maintained and renewed with an annual replacement budget. Our gym and cardio space is large enough for whole squad training, and we have a function hall, bar, and well-equipped kitchen. The club has trailers and towing vehicles to enable racing locally and nationally.
We have seen recent growth in our competitive adult membership, particularly in seniors, and our recreational squad are keen to improve both technique and fitness.

The club is friendly and sociable and promotes inclusivity, making rowing available to all who want to come and enjoy the sport with us.

About You

You will have competed or coached in a successful squad at a high level and will have experience of what it takes to lead a squad or group to win at club and national events. You will have a solid understanding of how to develop adults to reach their potential. We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, energetic, and aspires to grow with us and be part of the journey.

In addition to the above, you will also need to hold, or be prepared to work towards achieving:

  • A British Rowing coaching qualification, ideally Level 2
  • Full driving licence
  • RYA level 2 (powerboat) or equivalent
  • Completed British Rowing’s Safeguarding and Protecting Children module

Applicants without some of these will be considered, provided you are willing to gain them in an agreed timescale.

About the Role

The Adult Head Coach will be responsible for a range of adult athletes of different ages, abilities, and experiences. This means that you will need to:

  • Develop and implement a training plan tailored to individual athlete development
  • Coach some land and water training sessions
  • Provide individual feedback as well as squad-specific strategic guidance
  • Work with a team of volunteer coaches, developing their skill sets and building a cross-club approach, alongside working with junior coaches, squad captains, and the club captain to drive your program
  • Support rowers at races/events as required (including trailer loading, driving, etc.)
  • Adhere to and educate on clean sport and anti-doping regulations.
What We Offer

This could become a full-time role within 12 months as new members join. It is an all-year-round role, salaried with some expenses covered. Salary to be discussed based upon experience. Immediate start possible.

This is an opportunity to be part of a club with a proud history, that is aiming high and wants an energetic, experienced individual to join us to achieve this.
