The Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialists play a vital role in the co-ordination and delivery of care and support to the children and young people cared for by the Children's and Young Person's integrated Cancer Service.
You will deliver high quality care provision to children and young people with cancer and their families who live in the South Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire area. This will see you taking responsibility of a caseload, advocating for the child/young person and family. You will provide highly specialist support, advice, education, training and information to healthcare professionals (HCP) within primary care, school staff and members of the MDT and appropriate training, support andinformation for children and young people and their families/carers.
As a Band 7 CNS, you will demonstrate leadership skills, managing the outreach team and caring for patients within the hospital and community setting.You will be a Registered Nurse (Child), holding a Paediatric Oncology Qualification with the knowledge and skills to act as an expert practitioner in this speciality. Experience of working within the community is desirable but not essential, the post would include flexible hours particularly for palliative care.

In this role you will be part of, and manage, a small team of Paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurses and Play Specialists who support and care for children and young people and their families, cared for by the East Midlands Children's and Young Person's integrated Service. Working as part of the paediatric Oncology team based at Nottingham Children's Hospital you will be part of a wider MDT responsible for the care of this group of patients, supporting local community nursing teams in Nottingham and South Derbyshire to deliver care to the patients.

The Paediatric Oncology Outreach team are based at the Nottingham Children's Hospital at QMC campus of NUH supporting patients on wards, clinics and at home. We are looking for an enthusiastic dynamic individual who can demonstrate compassion, empathy and care for our Patients and families within a variety of settings and via telephones. You should have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and model leadership values as we seek to expand and enhance our service for the benefit of the Patients and families.

The post holder will provide leadership, focus and resource for, providing a high standard of complex care and support to the child/young person with cancer/leukaemia and their families, including clinical expertise in palliative care. The post holder will work collaboratively with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care provided by the community nursing team. The post holder will provide specialist education and training to staff working in Primary care, education Services, Social services and the voluntary sector caring for these children.
The post holder actively participates in multi-professional meetings, acting as patient advocate and representing nursing views. The post holder will take overall responsibility for providing safe and effective complex care to all children within a defined paediatric oncology/haematology caseload in the Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire area of the East Midlands.
The post holder will manage the band 6 paediatric Oncology Outreach Nurse Specialist and outreach Play Specialist posts and participate in the supervision, teaching, mentorship and appraisal of pre and post registration staff.
The post holder will work autonomously in both the hospital and community setting.
