You will be joining a well-established and growing team of Breast Care Nurse Specialists who provide an excellent service to patients who have been diagnosed with early breast cancer who require a comprehensive programme of support throughout their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.

We are looking for an individual who is forward thinking, responsive to the needs of patients and the service and appreciate working within a multi-disciplinary team.

The successful applicant will have significant post registration experience with the ability to work autonomously and as part of the breast specialist team.

Main duties of the job

Main duties:

  • Coordinate the Patients journey through the Breast Care Service.
  • Acts as Key Worker for Breast Cancer patients.
  • Act as clinical supervisor to peers.
  • Provide specialist clinical advice/support/information to Patients, Carers, Relatives, Breast Care Core/Extended Team Members and staff/organisations associated to the speciality.
  • Enable patients with specialist breast care needs to attain their best possible quality of life and promote their cancer journey experience - acting as patient advocate when required.
  • Require enhanced communication skills to break bad news on a frequent basis and provide telephone counselling.
  • Drainage of Seroma.
  • Prescribe Permanent Breast Prosthetics.
  • Refer patients onto other Specialities as appropriate.
  • Act upon referrals from other members of the Multi Professional Health Care Team/Providers, Community Practitioners, GPs, Patients and Carers
  • Monitor the Cancer Targets for Breast Care.
  • Notify Primary Health Care Teams of Serious diagnosis.
