Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Coordinator

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Macmillan Cancer information and Support Centre team at North Manchester General Hospital, working as a Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Co-ordinator.

Main duties of the job

As Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Co-ordinator you will manage and develop the established counselling service for cancer patients and relatives at the hospital. Responsible for volunteer counsellors recruited into the team, you will assign them to clients as appropriate, as well as delivering appropriate psychological therapy for clients yourself where required. You will work closely with cancer teams at North Manchester General who refer clients to the service as well as the Macmillan Counsellor and Psychological Support Co-ordinators on other MFT hospital sites ensuring parity of provision across the Trust.

Person Specification
Essential and desirable
  • Recognised professional qualification, diploma or working towards a masters
  • Member of a recognised professional body e.g. BACP Accreditation or UKCP and be accredited or working towards Accredited Practitioner of that body
  • Experience providing therapy within the healthcare and/or charitable sector
  • Experience of working in an acute health setting/with physical health
  • Ability to create and maintain a suitably safe and therapeutic environment to ensure clients emotional and physical wellbeing
  • An aptitude for recruiting and managing a team of volunteers
  • Counselling supervision qualification or working towards
  • Experience of managing a team of volunteers or managing a clinical team
  • Broad understanding of the impact of cancer on emotional health
