Job summary

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust seeks a Macmillan Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist to deliver leadership and advanced physiotherapy within Oncology and Haematology wards at Leicester Royal Infirmary. You will assess and treat patients, provide expert clinical reasoning, and influence service development.

The role requires strong MDT collaboration, evidence-based practice, and experience in complex cases, with a focus on cancer care pathways and rehabilitation across the trust.

This post is sponsored by Macmillan to provide clinical leadership and of the delivery of Physiotherapy to Patient within Oncology and Haematology wards at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

You will demonstrate excellent communication and time management skills working within a multidisciplinary team carrying out assessments and interventions to support patient with a cancer diagnosis and going through cancer treatment. An extensive range of clinical skills and knowledge of a variety of conditions such as respiratory and long term conditions is essential for this role.

Main duties of the job

• Provide clinical and professional leadership to Physiotherapy colleagues in the team
• Be responsible for the clinical standards, evidence based practice and quality metrics within the team
• Work as an autonomous practitioner to provide specialist therapy assessments, diagnose and develop individualised treatment programmes based on the patients needs, using advanced clinical reasoning skills
• To be responsible for a clinical caseload; which will include complex cases
• Undertake an active role in developing Physiotherapy within the speciality
• Be responsible for the day to day management of the delivery of Physiotherapy by the team in an efficient and effective way within a fast and pressurised environment
• Work alongside the Therapy Speciality Lead / Therapy Clinical Team Leader to develop links between the specialist Therapy team and relevant CMG's and Corporate Directorates within UHL
• Ensure the training and development of staff within the Therapy specialty Team

Job responsibilities

• Liaise with colleagues and work across site/cross specialty if appropriate in order to ensure the provision of a seamless equitable service
• Deputise for the Therapy Clinical Team Leader as appropriate
• Develop the evidence base for practice through audit, clinical effectiveness and research activity
