An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and enthusiastic Physiotherapist to join the Kidderminster MSK Physiotherapy Outpatient Team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

This is a part time, permanent role (26.5 hours per week).

We are seeking a Physiotherapist with NHS experience in MSK outpatients, who possesses advanced skills in assessing and treating MSK conditions.

The successful candidate will need to be proactive, highly motivated in their own professional development, able to demonstrate strong clinical reasoning, and committed to delivering evidence-based practice.

In this role, you will manage a complex and varied caseload in a busy, friendly department. There will also be opportunities to run group sessions and assist in fracture clinics, providing initial assessments and advice to patients following injury or surgery.

Experience working with trauma or post-operative patients is therefore preferred. The department also enjoys close collaboration with our Extended Scope Practitioner service, which specialises in spinal, knee, shoulder, and pain clinics.

You will be supported in your continuing professional development by experienced and supportive team leaders, and you will be actively encouraged to contribute to the development of both colleagues and the service.

Main duties of the job

Working as an autonomous practitioner, toprovide high quality patient focussed care through assessment, diagnosis,development and delivery of individual treatment programmes.

To take the responsibility for own caseloadwithin a defined area of service or for a particular patient type.

To provide supervision, support and educationto qualified and unqualified staff and students.

To participate indepartmental audit in support of evidence-based practice.

To communicate with theMDT as appropriate to provide comprehensive assessment to determine admissionprevention as appropriate to given speciality.

To undertake outpatientactivity as appropriate within area of speciality.

To contribute to our 7-dayservice on a rota basis dependant on specialty of work. To complete on callover a 24 hrs period / complete weekend working as appropriate to speciality.

Key Duties:

Clinical:

To be professionallyand legally accountable for all aspects of practice, including the managementof patients receiving treatment.

To undertake clinicalassessment, including risk analysis, of patients presenting with simple andcomplex/multi pathologies within defined area of speciality.

To be able to apply knowledge and highlydeveloped skills from a wide range of specialties e.g. respiratory, neurology,musculoskeletal outpatients, care of the elderly dependant on given area ofspeciality underpinned by evidence.

To use advanced clinical reasoning skills andmanual assessment techniques to establish accurate diagnosis.

To use judgemental skills and comprehensiveknowledge of physiotherapy treatments to formulate individual treatmentprogrammes based on evidence of best practice.

To demonstrate a high level of skill indexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills to deliver appropriate treatmentsselected from a range of physiotherapeutic interventions e.g. normal movement,motor relearning, manual therapy techniques, respiratory techniques, use ofNIV, exercise therapy, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy dependant on area ofspeciality.

To regularly evaluate the effectiveness of thetreatment plan and adjust the treatment accordingly.

To use clinical knowledge to formulate aprognosis and recommend an appropriate course of action and discharge plan.

To maintain comprehensive, accurate andcontemporaneous treatment records including valid consent appropriate to theintervention.

To ensure that patient confidentiality ismaintained at all times.

To be an active participant on the evening andweekend On Call Service, which includes advanced respiratory techniques andnon-invasive ventilatory aids. This may also include the treatment of children.Rota will depend on Speciality

To be responsible for leading patient classes,e.g. cardiac rehabilitation, knee group and rheumatology classes dependant onarea of speciality.

Communications:

To assess capacity, gain valid consent and towork within a legal framework with patients who lack capacity to consent totreatment.

To communicate effectively, verbally andthrough touch, with patients to maximise rehabilitation potential.

To demonstratecommunication skills of persuasion, motivation, reassurance, explanation andnegotiation, with patients with barriers to effective communication may beevident, eg expressive and receptive dysphasia, altered perception, hearingloss, mental disabilities, pain and fear.Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident.

To write clear andconcise notes based on physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients, inaccordance with professional standards.

To use writteninformation in assisting the patient to understand their condition andinvolvement in the treatment process.

To liaise with the designated Team LeadPhysiotherapist regarding the workload of the area.

To liaise with senior physiotherapy staffregarding highly complex cases.

To liaise with medical, nursing staff and otherhealth care professionals regarding patient care.

To liaise and where appropriate advisepatients, carers and relatives regarding patient care.

To liaise with membersof the multidisciplinary team and attend case conferences, MDT meetings andward rounds as appropriate.

To produce writtendischarge summaries and/or progress reports to GPs, Consultants or otherreferring health professional regarding the patients condition withinSpeciality.

Educationand Training:

To be appraised by the Team LeadPhysiotherapist within area of speciality, agree personal objectives to beachieved within area of speciality and formulate a personal development plan.

To maintain own clinical professionaldevelopment by a variety of means (internal/external courses, journal reviews,self-directed study) in order to maintain up to date clinical knowledge.

To keep abreast of new developments in clinicalphysiotherapy and evidence based practice.

To participate in all annual mandatorytraining.

To demonstrate an understanding of clinicalgovernance in physiotherapy practice. To regularly evaluate physiotherapypractice through the use of outcome measures and audit.

To undertake, or assist with Research andDevelopment activity.

To participate in training by the regulardelivery of presentations to fellow physiotherapists, other staff and students.
