Job description
Overview

The Cancer Psychological Care Team provides specialist psychological assessment and interventions for patients, family members and carers. Established in 2019 as part of a partnership between King’s College Hospital and Macmillan Cancer Support and gaining permanent status in 2021, the team delivers evidence‑based psychological care and works closely with community services to integrate secondary and primary care. It is a small, friendly, supportive and compassionate team committed to providing culturally and practically acceptable care for the population served.

Responsibilities

The post supports the integrated cancer psychological support service across KCH. Key duties include screening new referrals, managing the patient database and outcomes, and auditing service processes to ensure high‑quality care. The successful candidate will also support novel projects such as educational workshops for patients and carers, equality, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and hold a small clinical caseload under supervision.

  • Assist practitioner psychologists in the delivery of a specialist applied psychology service in cancer care.
  • Provide clinical work as required by the service, under the clinical and professional supervision of a practitioner psychologist.
  • Assist in clinical and service‑related administration: conduct audits, collect statistics, develop audit and/or research projects, teach, run group work, and take part in project work.
  • Ensure effective administration and management of the patient referral process: screen new referrals, request additional information when required, present referrals in team meetings, provide telephone triage, and manage outcomes.
  • Attend and contribute to weekly service level meetings and multi‑disciplinary team meetings.
  • Work at appropriate levels of independence, following clinical guidelines and the policies and procedures of the service, and seek help from the clinical/professional supervisor or manager as required.
