Machinist Technician - 12 month contract likely to extend

Location: Peterborough, Onsite

Hours: Core hours 8:00 -16:30 (flexible working hours)

Employment Type: Full-time

Rate: 17.62 per hour

Duration: 12 months (likely to extend)

Are you a skilled machinist with a passion for precision and innovation? We're looking for a Machinist Technician to join our dynamic Research & Development team in Peterborough. In this role, you'll work on cutting-edge engine programs, supporting both current and future product development across a wide range of applications.

You will:

  • Operate a variety of CNC and conventional machines to produce prototype and test components.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings to meet exact specifications and tight deadlines.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technicians in a fast-paced R&D environment.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and quality standards while maintaining high levels of workmanship.
  • Support process improvements and occasionally contribute to training activities.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in operating conventional lathes, milling machines, boring, grinding, and/or CNC machinery.
  • Familiarity with measurement tools such as vernier calipers, depth and thread gauges.
  • The ability to accurately interpret technical engineering drawings and instructions.
  • Good general PC skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, email).
  • A proactive, self-motivated mindset and excellent teamworking skills.

Desirable Skills

  • Apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 in Machining).
  • Experience with Mazak 5-axis (Mazatrol Smooth X control) or Haas ST10 (Fanuc control).
  • Familiarity with FeatureCAM or similar software.
  • Leadership or coordination experience in a workshop or build environment.
