Job description

Job Description:

Responsible for the safe machining of components to meet drawing specification requirements. This includes providing quick response to manufacturing requests. The purpose of the role is to meet the key tasks and responsibilities listed below to the best standard possible in line with the relevant KPIs.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

1. Machine components using drawings, programs and printouts as requested.This will include the programming (where applicable), prove-out and running of the machines, on a regular basis.

2. To ensure machines work to their optimum effectiveness, following the defined manufacturing process.

3. Ensure quality checks are completed in line with business requirements and fulfil any documentation in respect of this.

4. To ensure the maintenance logs are maintained and maintenance requirements are thoroughly carried out according to the requirements of the machines in use.

5. All machine breakdowns are notified and recorded, however minor, as laid out in procedures.

6. To be flexible and support un-manned machining at all times.

7. To be supportive and participative in all activities initiated by Production Engineering or the manufacturing management team.

8. To be fully aware of the requirements laid down by the Health & Safety, COSHH Acts, and ensure they are being adhered to.

9. To maintain a 'clean' operating environment around the machine, including benches.

10. Ensure that associated work area is a safe working environment with the emphasis on:

  • Safe working practices including tidiness and housekeeping

  • Safe use of regularly maintained material handling equipment

  • Recognition and ability to deal with hazards and hazardous materials.

  • Aware of COSHH and RIDDOR regulations and abide by them.

11. To undertake duties as required by the Machine Shop Supervision.

12. To highlight training needs as deemed necessary to fulfil job role.

13. Accidents and incidents are reported to the Supervisor in a timely manner observing RIDDOR regulations.

14. To ensure all product and administration disciplines are met, in line with our ISO Quality Standard.

15. To recommend process changes to ensure continuous improvement.

Key Competencies (includes skills)

i)Improving quality

ii)Multiple machine operation wherever possible

iii)Reducing manufacturing set and run times.

iii)Reducing lead times and communicating any changes.

iv)Health and Safety and COSHH improvements.

v)On-going risk assessment and machine SAF working procedures.

The person should have the following behaviors and traits- Great teamwork skills, Flexibility, Good communication skills verbal and written, Trustworthy, self-motivated with a good work ethic.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

  • Machining Apprenticeship or similar time served machining experience.

  • Min. 5 years experience working with conventional or CNC machine tools, milling / turning essential

  • Experience of multi-axis machines an advantage but not essential as training provided

  • Formal Engineering qualification. Min. City and Guilds or similar.

  • Mature and conscientious approach to work.

  • Self-motivated but team working.

  • Problem solving skills.

  • Computer experience.

  • Experience of using different types of metrology with the ability to check their own work equipment

Additional Information

The role operates in a Machine shop environment on the night shift. There is the requirement to be able to move around the machines to load and unload materials and tools of varying size and shape
