We have an excellent opportunity fora skilled Machinist to join our manufacturing team in East Leake.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for operating both manual lathes and CNC machines to produce precision components in line with engineering specifications. This position demands strong technical skills, keen attention to detail, and a consistent commitment to high-quality standards within a production environment.

Work schedule:Monday to Friday

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and set up centre lathes to machine components to precise specifications.
  • Setting up and operating CNC machines to manufacture components with high precision in accordance with technical specifications.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical instructions.
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for different materials.
  • Perform milling, turning, facing, boring, threading, and other machining operations as required.
  • Inspect finished components using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain and sharpen cutting tools to optimize machining efficiency.
  • Adhere to health and safety regulations, ensuring a clean and organized work environment.Troubleshoot machining issues and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers and production teams to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain equipment and report any maintenance or repair needs.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in a comparable machining role
  • Proven experience as a Centre Lathe Turner or similar machining role
  • Proficiency in operating manual lathes understanding machining principles
  • Experience as a CNC setter/operator/programmer
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documents
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, materials, and machining techniques
  • Attention to detail with excellent precision and accuracy in machining
  • Familiarity with measuring instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers in both imperial and metric form
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Awareness of health and safety procedures in a workshop environment
  • Awareness of lean principles including 5S methodologies
  • Relevant vocational training or certification in machining is an advantage
  • A self-starter that can organize their tasks within the working day
