Job summary

Northwood is seeking a dedicated Machine Operator to join our fast-paced paper manufacturing team. You will learn our state-of-the-art converting machinery, perform safety checks, and contribute to high-quality output.

You’ll work 4 on 4 off, with days and nights, gain training, and enjoy benefits like pension, sick pay, and early access to pay. This role offers real progression opportunities within a growing, UK-based family business.

Qualifications

• Technical and proactive approach to set up machines safely and correctly.
• Basic fault finding and minor preventive maintenance to reduce downtime.
• Experience in a converting or similar FMCG environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate high speed/high volume converting machinery with quality checks.
• Conduct pre-use checks for safety and report defects promptly.
• Rectify minor issues within scope before escalation toShift Engineer.
• Collate waste paper into balers for batch delivery to Mills.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost-reduction ideas.

About the Role

Please note the following regarding the advertised pay range: The lower rate refers to the starting rate (Tier 1), and the higher rate (Tier 2) refers to the rate available following successful completion of the probation period, and modular competency-based training. Both salaries are based on hourly rates at 41.5 hours per week.

Job Opportunity

Upon joining us, you'll receive full training across our state of the art production machinery and balers.

Your day to day:

You will be working with a high performing, talented, and supportive team

Prior to machine operation, you will conduct pre-use lifting and equipment guarding checks to ensure absolute safety.

Operate our high speed/high volume converting machinery, you'll conduct quality checks, performing electronic or manual adjustments as required.

Within permitted scope, you will rectify any defects or minor issues in the first instance before escalating to a Shift Engineer or Cell Leader/Shift Manager.

You will regularly collate waste paper product into balers which will be delivered in batches to our Mills to be recycled.

Continuous Improvement is embedded into everything we do, therefore you will seek out opportunities for cost reductions and added value where appropriate.

During breaks, you will have access to a common area where you can eat and rest prior to returning to your workday.

Essential Skills

What we need from you:

Technical and proactive approach, setting our machines safely and correctly, and carrying out basic fault finding and minor PPMs to reduce downtime and sustain machine reliability.

Experience in a Converting or similar FMCG environment.
